BORKUMRIFF IV, built by Royal Huisman in the Netherlands in 2002, bears the exterior profile of a classic schooner, a look that will make every sailor’s heart beat a little faster. She was delivered by a shipyard that is widely regarded as one of the greatest for large luxury sailing yachts. Built for worldwide cruising, this fast and seaworthy yacht embodies the golden age of yachting. She has only ever been used privately and has been maintained to the highest standards. Reminiscent of the Newfoundland schooners used to hunt huge cod off the coast of north America, the yacht measures 50.58 metres in length (including her bowsprit) and has a sail area of 1,164 square metres across her two masts. Commissioned by an experienced owner who united a shipyard and design team that represent some of the most important names in classic sailing yachts, she boasts exterior lines coming from the design office of American schooner specialist, John G. Alde. Mit dem A-Aruba und dem B-Bonaire liegen die niederländischen Antillen unweit der venezolanischen Küste. Während sich Venezuela in den letzten Jahren aufgrund hoher Kriminalität für uns Segler zur No-Go-Area entwickelte, dienen die ABC-Inseln als Zufluchtsort während der jährlichen Hurrikan Saison. Der Tourismus spielt auch auf Curacao eine wichtige Rolle. Dennoch sind wir Segler ziemlich unerwünscht. In vier ausgewiesenen Ankerfeldern im Spaanse Water liegen die Schiffe zusammengepfercht vor Anker, ein freies Ankern ist im restlichen Land ist untersagt. Für vier ausgewiesene Ankermöglichkeiten ist jeweils ein Anchor Permit einzuholen. Somit sieht man eigentlich nie Segelschiffe in Bewegung – wie schade. Wir wagen es trotzdem, haben beim die notwendigen Anker-Permits gekauft und segeln mit Freunden einmal um Curacao. Die erste Etappe führt uns gegen die vorherrschenden Winde ca. 25 Meilen nach Klein Curacao. Hier liegen wir drei Nächte an einer Mooringboje, erobern die Sehenswürdigkeiten, erleben herrliche sundowner am Strand und starten direkt vom Schiff zu verschiedenen Schnorchel- und Tauchausflügen. Join us in this tour of 'Brainwave'. Sailing the 473 is very easy with dual wheel steering, excellent visibility and a fuss free cockpit with all lines leading aft. The mid boom sheeting system means the traveller is in front of the dodger and all the hard work is avoided by using a powered winch. This is powered by a Volvo 55hp diesel inboard and accompanied by a side power bow thruster. Both mainsail and genoa were upgraded to high performance dacron sails in 2016 and a new feathering prop and shaft in 2021. Stepping below, one is immediately struck by the volume. A major attraction of the Oceanis 473 is the large owner's cabin with queen island bed and separate ensuite. Both the saloon and cockpit have lots of room to sit around the table and the L-shaped galley is functional and spacious. There is an abundance of storage under the cockpit and in two aft lazarette lockers. Das Risiko ist groß, dass es ziemlich ekelig wird. Die Lage der Marina ist traumhaft. Zunächst werden alle Schranktüren und Bilgebretter geschlossen, damit wir uns in MariaNoa sicher bewegen können. Die Luken werden geöffnet, frischer Wind streicht die Schiffskörper. Alles scheint in Ordnung zu sein, kein Schimmel zumindest auf den ersten Blick. Die Gefäße mit hygroskopischem Granulat sind zum Teil leer, in den Auffangschalen befindet sich Wasser. Wie bei jedem Marina Aufenthalt werden Strom- und Wasseranschluss genutzt, um das Schiff von außen gründlich zu reinigen. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen?
