Wenige Segelstunden entfernt, taucht man in Gustavia auf St. Barth – oder auch St. Barthelemey – in das exklusive Leben des JetSet ein. Dior, Versace, Chanel und alle anderen Exklusivmarken bieten der ausgewählten Kundschaft all die überflüssigen Dinge an, die nur Menschen kaufen, die alles haben und zusätzlich überflüssiges Geld. Die Straßen sind gepflegt, die Speisen in den Restaurants erlesen. Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit auf St. Martin. Dann aber ging unsere Reise weiter zu den BVI, den Britisch Virgin Island. Die 90 Seemeilen haben wir in einer nächtlichen Parasailor-Rauschefahrt in nur 15 Stunden mit bis zu 10 Knoten Geschwindigkeit zurückgelegt und kamen mitten in der Nacht in Roadtown an. OUR SCORING CATEGORIES 1) BUILD QUALITY - This encompasses both the interior and exterior and the overall quality and durability of items like deck hardware, mechanical systems, decking, windows, cabinetry and hardware, flooring, overall surfaces and materials. 2) SAILABILITY - This focuses primarily on the ergonomics of operating the vessel: the location and orientation of sail handling hardware, helm position and visibility, plus overall performance as reported (these are tried and tested boats, so there is plenty of info out there). We believe from our personal experience with many cat owner friends that these boats are capable of sailing quite well when sailed properly, especially on well-planned passages...does this boat make it easy for the crew to do so? 3) TRAMPOLINE! - We approach this with some humor because obviously young kids LOVE the trampolines, and it's Rivers' PRIMARY reason for wanting a cat. That said, the attributes of the foredeck on a cat play heavily into the enjoyment of the boat at anchor. We've been guests on many cats where the kids enjoyed not only bouncing and rolling about on the tramps, but just hanging out and doing their thing, while the adults hang out on the perimeter. This is one of those "extra" spaces on a cat which make it as much a home as a boat, especially if the kids enjoy it. 4) LIVEABILITY - This category encompasses those things that make living on a boat a joy as opposed to a chore. Overall space, intelligent layout, comfort in the lounging areas and the cabins, plentiful storage in numerous areas, a generous galley, easy access to maintenance areas, and simple dinghy lifting for night security and for underway. 5) THE X-FACTORS - This is NOT a typical review category but it should be. This is all about human connection with what is not just a boat, but possibly a home. Do we get the "feels" when we first walk inside? Can we immediately imagine life here and does it makes us smile? A lot of factors play into this and most are not quantifiable. But there are definitely boats that can tick most or even all the boxes, yet still have ZERO X-Factor. If you don't love it, it doesn't matter how perfect it may be on paper. All of these categories will be scored by Loren and I base on 5 thumbs (yeah, it's dumb, but it's also fun) then added together. Reinforced points (keel, rudder, chain plates, hull-deck joint) help to strengthen the structure. A structural inner moulding is bonded and laminated to the hull. Its structural role is important as it takes and absorbs the stresses at pressure points (shroud chainplate tie rods, keel, rudder, etc.), and spreads any loads guaranteeing reduced strain on the hull. The surface material of the inner moulding makes cleaning easier and provides a better finish. The standard hull is white in colour with blue and silver livery. Steel blue is available as an option. - DECK - The deck is sandwich construction (glass fibre and balsa) for an optimal strength/weight ratio and excellent thermal and sound insulation. A “diamond point” non-slip surface increases safety over all areas of movement on deck. - HULL/DECK JOINT - An open-work aluminium toerail is bonded and screwed to the deck. This assembly technique ensures watertightness of the hull/deck joint and provides safety during movement on deck. - KEEL - The keels (deep and shallow draught) are cast iron. To improve their durability the keels are given an anticorrosion treatment and improved finish in the factory before assembly, using epoxy based coatings and paint. The keel is screwed to the boat with a stainless steel backplate and bonded. - STEERING - • Composite stock under-hung rudder. • Column-mounted pivoting steering wheel (Bénéteau patent). • Metal cable transmission system. • Emergency tiller. (The instruments are an option.) • Steering compass on console. • Control lever to starboard cockpit coaming. • 12V cigarette lighter socket on console. • Handrail. • Cup holder. • Folding varnished wood cockpit table fixed to steering console. • Manual bilge pump. - BATHING PLATFORM AND TRANSOM - • Transom with teak covered bathing platform. • Stainless steel bathing ladder with teak treads. • Outboard motor bracket. • Protective rubber rubbing strake to transom. • Cold water cockpit shower. - MAST AND BOOM - MAST: • Anodised aluminium tapered 9/10 mast. • Deck-stepped with stainless steel pillar in saloon. • Double 20° aft swept spreaders. This is Episode 35 of our adventure. This week we give you an updated tour of our 50' sailboat as of June 2022. We have been in the water for a little over a month and are trying to balance family life whilst continuing with the boat refurb. We have resigned ourselves to the fact we won't be ready to cross the Atlantic this year so we have plans for a 10 week sabbatical. Gemeinsam erleben wir die Antigua Sailing Week und segeln selbst von Antigua nach Barbuda. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Nach dem 24-h-Aufenthalt in der North Sound Marina habe ich die ursprüngliche Natur um Great Bird Island umso mehr genossen und einen Schnorchelausflug nachgeholt. Es war zwar bedeckt und das für Unterwasseraufnahmen so wichtige Sonnenlicht fehlte, dennoch fand ich eine unberührte Welt aus Weich- und Hartkorallen mit einer Vielzahl diverser Fischarten. In der 1. Maiwoche findet mit 85 Teilnehmerbooten die 53. Antigua Sailing Week 2022 statt. Wir sind deswegen nicht angereist, sind dem aber auch nicht aus dem Weg gegangen. Wir ankern im Faulham Harbour und fiebern mit. Jeden Tag findet um 17:00 Uhr im Antigua Yacht Club die Preisverleihung des jeweiligen Renntages statt. Das Tagesergebnis ist erfolgversprechend, die Hoffnung auf einen finalen Podiumsplatz steigt. Von Jolly Harbour im Westen von Antigua nehmen wir Kurs auf Barbuda – 30 Meilen Richtung Norden. Wir kalkulieren 6 Stunden Segeln, kommen aber bereits nach 5 Stunden an, da der Halbe Wind mit 18-25 kn TWS uns zunächst unter Vollbesegelung dann im 1. Reff des Grosssegels zügig vorankommen lässt. 6 manchmal 7 Knoten Fahrt, das ist für MariaNoa ganz schön schnell. Auf Barbuda leben nur wenige Menschen – Barbuda steht für endlos lange Strände und ebenso lange Spaziergänge. Der Sand ist Schneeweiß und fein wie Puderzucker. Wir wollen gemeinsam um die Welt segeln. Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr dieses Jahrs erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Plan International ist ein internationales Kinderhilfswerk. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
