A comprehensive walkthrough trough the new BENETEAU First 27 SE - with Tit Plevnik. Learn more here: https://www.beneteau.com/us/first-se/first-27-se -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 135 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! We wouldn’t have it any other way. ► Full report in MULTIHULLS WORLD #177: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/class-6-cata-or-trimaran ► Catamaran or Trimaran? From ahead, between the hulls, the central longitudinal beam of the new Class 6 is intriguing… We’re not talking about the famous central rostrum so dear to Privilège, but something completely new. The structure is called the Spine Concept: this configuration takes the forces of the mast, stiffens the chassis and guarantees safety and finesse during possible high speed water-landings. The hunt for weight is clearly evident in refined and modular facilities - 3 to 6 cabins. The same goes for the appendages: you can choose between curved daggerboards and lift rudderblades or fixed skeg keels. The futuristic design reflects the ambition for performance, not to mention the comfort and protection of the crew. They’ve taken advantage of new spaces such as the large aft platform under the elegant rigid bimini or the forward cockpit. The Franco-Latvian yard has already delivered two examples. There are three versions of this model available – Maxi, Performance, Race. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: O Yachts Length: 62’9” (19.12 m) Beam: 29’8” (9.05 m) Light displacement: 14.8 to 17 t) Draft: 4’1” / 12’6” (1.25 / 3.80 m) Mainsail area: 1,173 / 1540 sq ft (109/143 m²) Genoa: 1,130 / 1,324 sq ft (105/123 m²) Nb of cabins: 4/5/6 Water: 211 to 396 US gal (800 to 1,500 l) Diesel: 211 to 396 US gal (800 to 1,500 l) Engines: 2 x 80 HP ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! According to designer Alan Johnstone, the brief for the new 36ft 6in J/111 one-design was for a boat that he and the rest of the J/Boats crew would want to sail—and it shows. During a recent daysail off Newport, Rhode Island, hull #1 reveled in picture perfect sailing conditions, with winds out of the east in the mid to high teens. Sailing to windward, the boat was balanced and easy to drive through the moderate swells. Off the wind, the boat lit up under a massive, but easy to handle A-sail. Narrow beam and a deep, high-aspect rudder make the boat easy to control, even when it’s on its ear. A bulb keel drawing 7ft 2in provides the righting moment to control the 751ft2 of working sail and 1,410-ft2 spinnaker. Tacking, even in the chop off Newport Neck, was effortless, with precision helm control throughout and never a doubt about making it onto the other tack. In the puffs, the boat accelerated like flicking a switch. This is a boat that looks impressive just sitting at the dock. The stem is plumb, so much so that in profile it almost looks as though there is a hint of tumblehome. The stern is also nearly vertical, with minimal overhang, in the interest of maximizing sailing length.

► Full report in Multihulls World #177: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/outremer-55-round-the-world-express The video of our two days sailing between La Grande Motte and Marseille. ► This new 55 will sit between the Outremer 51 and the 5X in the range. At the helm of the project is the “dream team” that has built the latest models, namely the triumvirate of Patrick Le Quément, Marc Van Peteghem and Franck Darnet. The coachroof is the result of innovative aesthetic research with large glazed areas on the sides and a large vertical opening forward, that is concealed by rounded uprights. The mast is stepped on the coachroof in order to ensure optimum weight centering. The two helm stations are equipped with movable steering wheels, and provide excellent visibility over the water and - on each side - comfortable seating for two people. The cockpit enjoys the protection of a light but well-covered bimini. At the stern, a wide bench seat allows you to make the most of the table, which is itself set back. As for the nacelle, this is home to a large galley with a central island and a forward-facing chart table. The Outremer 55 is above all a light, well-canvassed catamaran, capable of good speeds under sail - including upwind, close-hauled thanks to her deep daggerboards – from just 5 knots of wind. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Outremer Yachting Architect: VPLP Length: 54’11” (16.73 m) Beam: 27’ (8.22 m) Displacement: 29,500 lbs (13.4 t) Draft: 3’/7’10” (0.9/2.4 m) Air draft: 80’ (24.38 m) Mainsail area: 1,120 sq ft (104 m²) Genoa: 730 sq ft (68 m²) Gennaker: 1,560 sq ft (145 m²) Spinnaker: 2,370 sq ft (220 m²) Engines: 2 x 60 HP ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel
The #Mainship Pilot 34 has the timeless design of the Down East lobster boat. It is a great example of the craftsmanship of New England #shipbuilding. Delivers a great coastal cruising boat, comfortable and efficient. The design has a sharply upswept sheerline and low-profile trunk cabin. It’s a simple, utilitarian scheme that gets the job done. The simplicity of the this boat design appeals to a wide range of buyers looking for a comfortable, yet back-to-basics approach to boating. Has ample headroom below decks and provides comfortable accommodations. The cabin of the Pilot 34 is separated into two living spaces, but the areas can be brought together if desired. The bulkhead separating the main saloon amidships from the berth area forward contains two sets of bi-fold, louvered panels. The cabin door can be opened to create a continuous flow of space through the cabin. The forward V-berth can handle a six-footer, with length to spare. The dining area settee seats four, with plenty of elbow room. It converts to a genuine double berth. The galley is located to port. Standard amenities include an electric two-burner stove, an AC/DC refrigerator, a microwave oven and a coffee maker. This design makes effective use of space for storage. Abaft the galley is a molded fiberglass head. A built-in vanity with a Corian countertop, a power ventilator and a VacuFlush toilet are included as standard features. Entertainment comes in the form of a 13 inch TV/VCR combo mounted on a swivel platform in the forward cabin. It’s positioned near one of the louvered bulkhead openings, so it can be viewed from the saloon as well. An AM/FM single-CD player (with speakers in the cabin and cockpit) is included with the boat, or you can opt for a second audio system mounted at the helm. This soft top version includes a canvas top covers the helm and forward cockpit seating area. Side curtains are included to completely enclose you from the weather. Seating is generous on the Pilot 34. A pair of extra wide bench seats faces forward and another pair of benches, facing sideways, is just behind them. These can convert to additional sleeping space by lifting a panel in the base of the forward facing seats. It makes a great place for sleeping under the stars. The engine compartment is accessible through a hydraulically assisted hatch in the center of the forward cockpit deck. Access for engine maintenance is excellent. There is also a generator on this vessel. This boat reached top speed of 22.5 mph with great fuel economy. Steering is tight and responsive at all speeds. The hull design of the Pilot 34 incorporates a sharp entry to cut through and smooth out head seas. As it moves aft, the hull cross-section flattens to provide roll stability. The ride is quite well-mannered. Driving the Mainship Pilot 34 takes you back to a time when boating was a bit different from what it has become today. Even at top speed, you’ll be in the wakes of many other boats — but you won’t get beaten up. For information, please contact Jose Torres at 727-453-8651 or jose.torres@masseyyacht.com

Boat Name: Chimaera Length: 46 ft. 9 3/8 in. Beam: 10 ft. 5 in. Draft: 6 ft. 9 in. Year Built: 1967. Chimaera is a sloop rig that was built for Frederick Leibhardt, specifically to outrace other San Diego boats like Sally. “We built it here in Driscoll Boat Works in San Diego,” said John Driscoll, the boat’s owner. “The man that had built it was an architect, but my dad, Gerry Driscoll, knew how to make the boat look right so he did the design and sent it back to Sparkman and Stephens, who added on to it from there.” “I actually worked on it myself as a kid, building it I didn’t do much, maybe handed a few screws to the carpenter,” John Driscroll added. “I remember being on the boat and being in disbelief by how responsive it was – you pushed the helm down and the boat moved.” Chimaera’s design copied elements of Intrepid, the 1967 America’s Cup defender, whose rudder was separated from the keel.“It was a major breakthrough in boating technology,” Driscoll explained. Chimaera was carvel planked, but unique in that the outside of the hull was forged in compressions, instead of calking. “That technique wasn’t widely used, I think we might have even invented,” Driscoll said. “It made for a tighter hull with no calking and no cracks on the seams.” Notable Moments in Boat’s History: Chimaera’s first long distance race was the San Diego to Acapulco Race. The crew was comprised of the “who’s who” of North American yachting :Gerry Driscoll, founder of Driscoll Boat Works and skipper of four America’s Cup defender races; Lowell Orton North, founder of North Sails and Olympic Gold Medalist in the Star Class; , renowned yacht designer, Olin Stephens; Gene Trepte, and Liebhardt. “They led a good part of the race, then parked outside of Acapulco and didn’t make it,” Driscoll said. The crew came in second. Chimaera went on to win the Lipton Cup Regatta in 1970 and placed top two in the Ahmanson Cup Regatta in Newport Beach, Calif., and won most of the local races in San Diego and took every major championship in the area including the Rumsey Regatta and the entire series of individual races that led up to it. The boat continues its racing legacy “Currently we’re doing all the Ancient Mariner stuff,” Driscoll said, who’s been commodore of the Ancient Mariner Sailing Society since December 2013. “We do the whole ancient mariner circuit , which includes the Guinea Cup Race, a seven race series in San Diego Bay; then we got the YesterYear Regatta in June; the Kettenburg & Classic Yacht Regatta – that one’s cool because you get to see all the old boats.”
