This is Episode 35 of our adventure. This week we give you an updated tour of our 50' sailboat as of June 2022. We have been in the water for a little over a month and are trying to balance family life whilst continuing with the boat refurb. We have resigned ourselves to the fact we won't be ready to cross the Atlantic this year so we have plans for a 10 week sabbatical. In this video we update you of our plans and show you around the boat as it is now. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. Leave us a comment, watch our other videos, join our Facebook page, become part of our journey. https://www.facebook.com/fivegosailing https://www.instagram.com/fivegosailing

Source of the description: Vaan. Yachts BV “https://www.vaan.yachts/r4-exterior/“ Vaan. Yachts BV 2022 "MADE FOR SAILORS A Vaan is made for sailors. For the sensation of the water and the wind. It’s meant to excite and explore. And sure, a Vaan is also a fantastic luxury cruiser. But first and foremost a Vaan is made for sailors. A SAILORS HELM POSITION As a helmsman you want to be at the back of the cockpit, not high upon the roof. And the large, open transom connects you to the water that rushes underneath. It gives you a spectacular sailing sensation, much like a monohull, but without the heeling. And faster. CIRCULAR MATERIALS The design of the R4 is based on circular principles from the start. It is mostly made of recyclable materials and it is almost completely recyclable itself. The hull is made of more than 50% recycled aluminium like old window frames, traffic signs and license plates. Some parts contain even more than 75% reused materials. Aluminium also has an excellent track record for its strength, safety and flexibility ELECTRIC PROPULSION The Vaan R4 is all-electric, including the propulsion. You can choose between 2 Torqeedo FP10’s or 2 OceanVolt SD15’s, which offers hydro-generation allowing you to recharge the batteries while sailing. We are really enjoying this life and sharing everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
► Full test in Multihulls World Special Edition 18: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/ocean-renegade-r5-performance-and-ecology-aboard-the-same-catamaran ► The R5 is the original in the R series of Ocean Renegade and has proven to be a very capable bluewater cruiser. Her design brief was to incorporate a large open layout onto a 54-foot platform that featured both a forward sailing cockpit as well and a combined/convertible salon and aft cockpit. Her sailing cockpit has dual doors and a pivoting helm that allows for 3 different door and sailing configurations. This is a safe and secure sail handling area optimised for single-handing with all sail controls in one location and includes an electric line driver to control the mainsheet traveler. The R5 was developed to take full advantage of electrical propulsion systems, in particular the Torqeedo Deep Blue system where detailed hydrostatic and flow analysis was performed on the hulls to ensure efficiency. The system is backed up by a 15kw genset for range extension and the BMW battery system provides more than ample power for all the house loads. Large Corian kitchen and galley countertops, dishwashers, induction cooking, and vast amounts of stored energy all finished in handcrafted foam-cored natural bamboo cabinetry and trims make very comfortable to live on. The R5 achieves 200 miles per day without generating high loads. She covers distances effortlessly, but can also be dialed up to reward sailors with an exhilarating ride when required. The daggerboards reaching down anywhere from 4'3" of minimum depth to 7'6" at max depth kept us tight to the wind. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Length: 54' - 16.46 m Beam: 25' 5" Draft:4'3" to 7'6" Displacement: 30865 lbs Dry Weight: 24912 lbs Main square top: 92 sq. m Jib: 42 sq. m Code Zero: 96 sq. m Assym. Today we are reviewing the Hallberg Rassy 400, a brand new model from the Swedish yacht builder Hallberg Rassy, known for their quality passagemakers. Hallberg Rassy's are often the boat of choice amongst sailors who want to circumnavigate and/or sail high latitude waters, but the 400 is a little different to their older models, and Nick's not convinced its an improvement. Later in the series we'll review their 57, so subscribe to watch that! Thanks for watching! The 45m/148' yacht for charter CURIOSITY is a testimonial of the yachting golden era. Delivered in 1985, she comes from a period considered the best one in terms of naval architecture and spatial ideation. Having undergone a 2-year refit completed in 2021, her major new features are her extra 2,4m/6'6" in length and eco-friendly engines (through thermal combustion via an Azipod thruster powered by one of the two generators) for a safe and comfortable charter experience. CURIOSITY is above all an abundance of intimate relaxing areas. 4 guest decks and 200sqm exterior spaces are available for your needs. She includes areas for fitness, relaxation, and dancing. Her sun deck, called "Riot Flame deck", is structured in two main spaces: the healthy stage-like kitchen and the tented gym area. On the upper deck, enjoy the 7-seater Jacuzzi pool added during her 2019-2021 refit, and the expansive sunbathing areas or cocktail bar. On the main deck, the alfresco dining area is an invitation to relaxation and hedonism. At last, the extended swim platform offers more space, very practical for yoga sessions or as a water sports base. The 2021 refit also added a more modern open-plan exterior layout, including the addition of a spacious sunbed area at the bow. Her new length of 45m/148' boasts now more living spaces than a 55-meter yacht, plus all the luxury facilities any demanding guests would expect. On the interior side, retro-inspired, natural fiber fabrics, and white marble surfaces are tempered with cognac-colored leather and briarwood accents. It creates a feeling of familiarity and calmness, with a state-of-the-art air conditioning system. With wide salons, and fine AV/IT onboard technologies, CURIOSITY welcomes a total of 12 guests that can be accommodated in an arrangement of 6 staterooms with marble en-suite bathrooms. CURIOSITY comes with a crew of 10, specialising in offering awe-inspiring Italian art style service and desirable holistic onboard & water activities. Enjoy her large set of water toys for exceptional moments at sea! ➡️ Enquire with Fraser to find out more about this yacht for charter: https://www.fraseryachts.com/en/yacht-for-charter/curiosity/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=referral Built/ Refit: 1985/2021 Builder: Nicolini Length: 45.2M/148'04" Beam: 7.54M/24'09" Draft: 3.4M/11'02" Gross Tonnage: 320GT Hull: Steel Stabilisers: At anchor & Underway Engines: 2 X MTU (2,120HP) Cruising/Max speed: 12 Knots / 16 Knots Cruise Range: 2,500NM Economical Range: 5,000NM Exterior Designer: Richard Le Sarre / Dubois Classification: Lloyd's Register Staterooms: 6 Guests: 12 (Cruising and sleeping) Crew: 10

We're continuing our monohull review series with a boat tour and review of the Moody 41DS. This is a really interesting boat, and unlike anything else on the market. The design takes inspiration from trawlers such as the Nordhavn and catamarans, but it is of course a monohull. The question is- is this the best of both worlds? Or are they trying to create the impossible? Let us know your thoughts. Thanks for watching! We have an action packed episode this week as we hit the 200,000 subscriber mark on youtube! We take you along as we get a custom made surfboard made for us by Courtney Parks, the owner of Tropix surfboards in Bocas del Toro, Panama. I then interview my friend Mike, who is building a custom made aluminium sailboat in the same factory where Courtney shapes his surfboards. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!! After months of "couch sailing" on YouTube we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless YouTube Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to. After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase. Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own. Thanks for watching! Matty, Brit & Wicked :)

Full test in Multihulls World n°185: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/leen-72-three-hulls-dividing-consumption-by-three The interest of these new ocean-going multihulls is their very low drag. The Leen 72, like her smaller sistership, the 56, retains the principle of a vast platform sat above the three hulls, but adopts smaller and more aft-set floats than those of the NEELs, so that the deck plan, seen from above, is reminiscent of that of a monohull – a very wide one! Maximum habitability, panoramic view from the pod, low consumption, good behavior in rough seas: the 72 promises to be an ideal craft for long cruising or even exploration missions. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Leen Trimarans Architects: Nivelt and Frutschi Overall length: 71’6” (21.80 m) Beam: 29’ (8.85 m) Draft: 4’6” (1.37 m) Light displacement: 70,500 lbs (32 t) Water: 264 US gal (1,000 l) Fuel: 1,320 US gal (5,000 l) Motor: 330 HP Cabins: 4 to 6 CE Certification: A Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! ► Full test in Multihulls World #185: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/trimaran/corsair-880-a-brilliant-toy-for-gliding-across-the-water ► An easy-to-transport trimaran that’s comfortable for both cruising and racing. This is how the 880 comes across, a worthy heir to the famous F-27, an iconic model launched back in 1986. This time, the yard started from a blank canvas and integrated elements of comfort previously unknown on board a trimaran of less than 30’ (9 m): complete lighting system, refrigerator, manual or electric toilets, and even reversible air conditioning are available! Performance enthusiasts can rest assured: the air conditioning and generator are removable... And the Corsair 880, available in a Sport version with its carbon mast, should be able to fully convince them! ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Corsair Marine Length: 28’11” (8.80 m) Beam: 22’4”/8’3” (6.8 / 2.5 m) Light displacement: 3,660 lbs (1,660 kg) Draft: 18”/5’3” (0.45 / 1.60 m) Sail area: 555 sq ft (51.47 m²) Mast height: 39’4” (12 m) Max engine power: 15 HP outboard ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Full test in Multihulls World #184: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/horizon-pc60-outstanding-space-and-comfort Almost 30 units built for a 60-foot powercat: a more than respectable result from a commercial point of view. This model, produced in the United States, features a relatively classic design, very motoryacht-like with inclined bows and almost enclosed flybridge - a true upper deck in a way. You can opt for an open flybridge, however. The deck line that rises up in the middle of the hulls is also in keeping with motoryacht culture - as such, it lends the PC60 an original outline among 60-foot multiyachts. Construction and finish are all completed to a very high standard. The Horizon PC60 can be customized on request. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Horizon Power Catamarans Length: 61’7” (18.78 m) Beam: 24’6” (7.47 m) Draft: 4’9” (1.46 m) Displacement: 83,470 lbs (37.86 t) Motors: 2 x 705 HP Fuel: 1,000 US gal (3,785 l) Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! For the shipyard launched by Eric Roger over 20 years ago with pocket catamarans such as the Aventura 23 and the 28 (whose molds were already those of other previous models) presenting a multihull as ambitious as this A14 (from now on A520 MY) is quite a challenge… On our first visit aboard, at the Cannes boat show, we were struck by the large foredeck and the cleverly designed flybridge with sunroof, the large fitted-kitchen style galley on the port side, the interior helm station and the forward door. Six months later, the Aventura 14 was declared Winner of the Multihulls Of The Year in its category. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Aventura Catamarans Overall length: 48’11” (14.90 m) Beam: 24’7” (7.50 m) Draft: 3’3” (1.00 m) Light displacement: 37,500 lbs (17 t) Fuel: 2 x 396 US gal (2 x 1,500 l) / + 264 US gal (1,000 l optional) Motors: 2 x 320 / 440 HP ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! ► Full test in Special Edition #18: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/vaan-r4-meticulous-design-using-recycled-aluminum ► The aim of this new Dutch builder is to launch a range of luxury catamarans based on a maximum of recycled elements - the hulls of the R4 are made of 50% recycled aluminum from window frames, road signs or license plates - and ecological materials such as cork or vegetable alternatives to leather. On deck, the two helm stations - one on each hull - and the absence of a rigid bimini are striking. The principle is to enjoy beautiful sensations at the helm. A removable cover can nevertheless be fitted. Inside, the yard wishes to break away from general trends and propose a design closer to the codes used in luxury hotels. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Vaan Yachts Length: 42’ (12.80 m) Beam: 23’3” (7.10 m) Displacement: 24,000 lbs (10.9 t) Mainsail: 592 sq ft (55 m²) Solent: 323 sq ft (30 m²) Engines: 2 x 10 or 15 kW Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! This Christophe Barreau design features a very aft-set nacelle – yet open to the cockpit – and a helm station set forward. The 54 is be available with fixed keels or daggerboards. ► Full test in Multihulls World #184: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/lagoon-51-back-to-the-future ► The first images released raised doubts about the position of the mast aboard the new Lagoon 51. Bruno Belmont, who heads up their product development, confirmed that the new Lagoon generation will be abandoning the idea of the aft-set rig and the self-tacking jib. This choice is far from an obvious one: in terms of outright performance, the “old” configuration is better. But when it comes to propelling a relatively heavy catamaran in cruising mode, this translates into a very tall rig, XXL-dimensioned coachroof reinforcement, and a jib that is a challenge to trim properly... The Lagoon 51, despite the mast being 4¼ feet (1.3 m) shorter, will have a sail area that is barely any smaller compared to that of the 50 - whose hulls and part of the deck layout it assumes. Also, the new model will come in at almost a ton less in displacement. The flybridge of the 51 becomes a real living area, featuring reversible helm rests. Numerous solar panels are in evidence, and these are custom cut to reconcile aesthetics and efficiency (3,400 Wp). The hulls have been lengthened to offer wide sugarscoops, that can be extended by the hydraulic platform. Access from the dock is now much easier. Inside, the disappearance of the Lagoon 50's imposing mast support strut benefits the new nacelle, which is finished in Alpi sand oak. Customer feedback on the 50 (of which 300 units have been built and sold!) has allowed Lagoon to rework 70 points, such as the holding tanks, which are now gravitational (and not under the floors). The standard layout retains one owner's cabin, to starboard, and three guest cabins to port - other layouts are available. We also notice that the price offer is simpler and clearer, with 80 HP motors proposed as standard. Lagoon is also strengthening its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) processes with upholstery made from 100% recycled materials and hulls constructed using hemp fiber and partly biosourced resin. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Lagoon Architects: VPLP design Interior design: Nauta Design Overall length: 50’4” (15.35 m) Beam: 26’7” (8.10 m) Air draft: 77’2” (23.53 m) Draft: 4’6” (1.38 m) Light displacement: 43,910 lbs (19.914 t) Mainsail: 1,044/1,076 sq ft (97/100 m²) Genoa: 570 sq ft (53 m²) Code 0: 1,087 sq ft (101 m²) Water: 219 US gal (830 l) Fuel: 2 x 137 US gal (2 x 520 l) Drivetrain: 2 x 80 HP Sleeps: 6 to 14 CE Certification A: 12 - B: 14 - C: 20 - D: 30 ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! After circumnavigating for 6 years with our 26 Footer in the tropics is time for a Change! Our new sailing grounds require more storage capacity and definitely insulation, this is why we took the decision to sell our beloved Nala and buy a slightly bigger boat! Epidaurus (Greek: Ἐπίδαυρος) was a small city (polis) in ancient Greece, on the Argolid Peninsula at the Saronic Gulf. Two modern towns bear the name Epidavros: Palaia Epidavros and Nea Epidavros. Well, it’s taken us nearly 3 years to get this boat refit complete!! Saoirse is now a fully refitted 38’ Island Spirit Catamaran. Her hull dates back to 1999 but because she was entirely stripped, even the original bulkheads were removed and replaced she is now registered as a 2020 model. Absolutely everything on her was brand new at the time of the build. The sugar scoops were beautifully extended before we purchased her, giving us awesome platforms for fish/diving/ swimming off of. And even the mast and rigging is all brand new. Getting back to the refit, I now realize why people had such a rye smile on their faces in the beginning, when they asked how long we expected it to take? We very confidently told everyone - 8 months!!🤦🏼♀️. We figured we had built houses in less time than that, how long could it possibly take to refit a yacht??? Little did we know - and how much have we learnt since then⛵️ So, here she is, in all her 99,9%-completed-state glory. We are thrilled with how she turned out and it’s made all the hard work so worth it. When we look back at the ‘before’ state of Saoirse in our old pics and videos, we wonder WHAT would have possessed us to go into this project with the confidence that we did?? If we knew then what we know now, would we do it again? The jury is still out but probably not. Although, it’s hard to say because we really have enjoyed this process, and are thrilled that we know her from the very bottom up, but I think we also feel now - ‘been there, don’t that’ and wouldn’t take on a project like it again🤣 So welcome to Saoirse - we hope you find the tour interesting. For our many followers that have contacted us and said that we inspire them in their early stages of planning this life changing endeavor- we hope this spurs you along on your path. It’s about as tough a job as you could ever do, especially if you do most of it yourself- but we can assure you - it is so rewarding in the end. If there are any areas that you would be more interested in knowing the process of - follow the links below because we documented almost the entire refit.
