Sailing our Lagoon 400 catamaran down Fuerteventura in a three-metre Atlantic swell to Morro Jable — the last anchorage before a month in the marina and the jump to Cape Verde. Three weeks of doing absolutely nothing in Fuerteventura (friends, a resort, zero content), and then the real thing: running south with the jib out at six and a half knots, in a swell that looks like nothing on camera and is three metres in real life. That's the thing about the Canary Islands — the wind always blows north to south, so once you go down, you don't come back up. A rolly night anchored in three metres of water, flying fish off Costa Calma that refused to be filmed, Vlad supervising, and the last night at anchor before the marina. Then a week of work in Milan, and I came back to the boat alone — the blonde is staying with her family before Cape Verde — to find it full of Sahara sand from the calima. I also brought back something important: the clock from my grandfather's Amel, the Zena, the only thing that survived when she was lost in Bonaire. And we're now officially members of the Ocean Cruising Club.
