WE HAD TO HAUL OUT & complete our emergency repairs‼️

We had to haul out our yacht to complete our emergency repairs! We knew when we left French Guiana after the Jetski accident and our emergency repairs that we would have to haul Saoirse out and fix the bow of the yacht. We had hoped that because it was above waterline we would possibly be able to do the repairs in the water. Once we had gotten to Trinidad it was evident that fixing her in the water was going to be impossible with all the wakes that come through the bay from power boats constantly wizzing through. After looking into the haul out at Peakes Yacht Services we decided it was a deal we couldn’t resist. Their prices were amazing and they give you your first 6 days on the hard for free. Us, being ever optimistic, we thought “wow it will be easy to get the work done in those free days!” BUT we were mistaken. As everyone that owns a yacht knows, when you fix one thing, 3 more things break! We had decided that while we had Saoirse on the hard we would realign the starboard rudder because we had noticed it was slightly off centre and had a shudder when we started to approach Trinidad. We also wanted to paint the cockpit floor as the paint had started peeling very badly over our crossing. We had also noticed when they were pressure cleaning the underside of the hulls that a bit of our anti fouling had started to come off. Not terribly but we thought since we were out we might as well touch that up and raise the waterline slightly. After we started sanding the anti fouling down we decided let’s do it properly and apply another 3 coats of anti fouling. While Saoirse was being pressure cleaned some paint above the water line peeled off and we had to add that to the list of jobs too. All in all we spent 10 days on the hard and when we say it was HARD being on the hard we are not exaggerating. The heat was unbearable with most days reaching between 37 and 39 degrees outside and the inside of the boat reaching 45 degrees!!! Tensions were high most of the time but we got the work we needed done and we’re put back into the water where it is so much cooler! 🤩
