The Chechen Wood Finally Lost | Bow Challenge Complete
The Chechen wood refused to bend. For weeks it fought back — snapping straight every time we released the clamps. This is how we finally won. After soaking thin 5mm strips in ammonia and laminating them layer by layer — 28 layers, from 70mm all the way to 133mm thick — the bow of the Wooden Shoe is finally complete. This is the finale of the Bow Challenge series. We recap the struggle, show the full build process, and present the finished result. 📌 Previous episodes in the Bow Challenge: 🔗 Part 1 — Bending the Bow: https://youtu.be/MpCUtrzKNuY 🔗 Part 2 — The Ammonia Breakthrough: https://youtu.be/JdWTJuCCsXQ 🚢 About this build: We are building the Wooden Shoe — a 25ft powerboat designed by Nexus Marine — entirely by hand, in the Mexican jungle, using exotic tropical hardwoods including Chechen and Cumaru. 🔔 Subscribe to follow the full build from jungle floor to finished boat. 00:00 Introduction with finished bow 00:19 Description of the bow challenge with springback 00:50 The springback problem 01:15 The method forward 01:29 Glueing the core bow 01:49 The 5 mm strips 01:56 Soaking in ammonia solution 02:11 Making the core with 9.5 mm short strips 02:46 After 60 mm, pure cold molding without soaking in ammonia solution 02:56 72 mm, 80 mm, 90 mm, 102 mm, 114 mm, 127 mm and finished lamination 03:19 The lamination of the bow is finished 03:33 The bow is cut and sanded 04:06 The bevel finished and one side with epoxy 04:29 The finished bow 05:00 Outro #woodenboat #boatbuilding #diywoodboat #woodworking #chechen #Mexico #jungleranch #woodenshoe
