Trouble in the Mojave Desert! Ep. 9

We are stoked to be on the road and making progress on getting to the Bahamas! After driving to Bakersfield, California we cut across on HWY 58 to Barstow where we hooked onto I-15 and headed North towards Las Vegas, Nevada. HWY 58 is a narrow two lane road in very BAD condition! If we had known how bad it would be, we probably wouldn't have taken that road at all. It was just getting dark and starting to rain; both elements Kenzie does not like driving in while towing the boat. The road was full of deep pot holes the size of large buckets and we were starting to get a VERY long line of traffic piled up behind us. Randall decided to pull over onto a large section of dirt off the side of the road to allow the long line of cars to pass us. As soon as we were off the road we realized that the dirt wasn't dirt at all, but gooey MUD!! We frantically began to turn back towards the pavement of the road, but the trailer began to fish tail and slide around in the gooey mess. With the gas peddle pressed to the floor and tires spinning we slowly creeped forward, but noticed a large drop off right ahead of us! Randall did the best he could to drive the truck back to the road and was able to get one tire on pavement! The traffic that had been behind us was so heavy that we weren't able to squeeze back in and onto the road. We knew that if we didn't keep our momentum we were likely to get the trailer stuck in the mud for sure! A considerate semi truck driver had just enough time to slow down enough to allow us to get back onto the road! Kenzie wasn't too happy about what happened and wanted to find a rest area or truck stop as soon as possible and be done for the day, Randall on the other had wasn't ready to stop at all and wanted to keep going. We were able to make it to a rest stop in the middle of no where, some where in Nevada. The next morning Randall went to check the oil in the truck and found that the tube that holds the dipstick had broken making it impossible to check the oil. We soon began our journey crossing the Mojave Desert. About 49 miles away from Las Vegas, Nevada we blew a tire on the trailer! We quickly got the spare put on (which is now the wheel that kept falling off the trailer while driving!) and made our way to Las Vegas where we bought a new tire. We were glad that the wheel didn't come off while driving on the congested freeways in Las Vegas! We made it to Utah later that night and then to Kenzie's hometown where we will be spending time with her family before leaving for the East Coast. ********************************************************************** THANK YOU for watching our videos and for SUBSCRIBING to our YouTube channel!
