The Expertise, Ep. 6 - Western Flyer: A Boat Reborn
In the sixth and final episode of The Expertise, explore the story of Western Flyer - a boat with a truly storied history. Famously charted by John Steinbeck, and sailed alongside his friend - ecologist, Ed Ricketts - the Western Flyer has sunk 2.5 times, been reclaimed from the bottom of the sea, and is now reborn in Port Townsend using the same bandsaw that built it. Join Director of Wooden Boat Festival, Barb Trailer, as she speaks with expert on John Steinbeck, Dr. Susan Shillinglaw, and Chris Chase of the Western Flyer Foundation, as they tell the remarkable story of this vessel - past, present, and future. The Expertise is a series created by Northwest Maritime Center as a part of its Wooden Boat Festival programming. NWMC's Wooden Boat Festival is the second largest wooden boat festival in the world, and takes place annually in Port Townsend, WA. It is made possible, in part, by support from First Fed Bank.
