Sail Sangihe 2014 - Events in Morotai Island

The Sail Sangihe Yacht Rally 2014 included a stop at Morotai Island. Here we were greeted by officials as honored guests. A special traditional dance brandishing swords is done when strangers arrive. They established that we were friendly and so took us into their care, as represented by the couple receiving flower necklaces and getting feet anointed. The Secretary toasted us with Indonesian beer! The highlight of our Morotai visit was a boat trip to Rao Island off the west coast of Morotai, where we visited a tidy, friendly village, smelled “Kopi” (Coffee) Rock, and walked to 2 waterfalls. The last evening we had a farewell dinner and thanked and were thanked by the friendly, and enthusiastic Tourism Team, who became very close to us and found it very hard to say goodbye. We especially want to thank Arfian who worked so diligently, and tirelessly to keep us informed and to grant all the yachtie’s demands. He was a Champion! Filmed in September 2014.
