From our anchorage, we decided to explore the island’s famous Moon Rock. Thankfully the climb wasn’t too tough (even though Vee isn’t the biggest fan of climbing 😄). But once we reached the top, the panoramic view over the Anambas islands was absolutely out of this world — turquoise water, untouched islands, and reefs in every direction. Next, we dinghied across to the island opposite us to visit EcoSymbiosis, a small off-grid eco retreat run by Antje and her daughters. Since 2018, they’ve been creating a simple, sustainable space for travelers looking to reconnect with nature. What we loved most was how thoughtfully everything is built — open bungalows without walls, composting toilets, minimal impact living, and a deep respect for the island ecosystem. This is a kind of place where families can slow down and experience island life in its most natural form, one can Detox or apply as a volunteer if it sparks your fancy.
