It's All In His Head - Episode 203 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
Learn more about our VERY LAST open house or about visiting Arabella here: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/visitor-welcome Now that we've got the various stainless tanks and heat shields here at the shop, it's time to start doing this and that around Arabella that we put aside as we waited for their arrival. The starboard side's "main lines" of electrical conduit and get run, and we've just got news this week that we'll be seeing an electrical panel here, one of a couple, in about a month. Supply shortages are putting a delay into the electrical, but luckily, orders are still moving. Joe "The Machinist", as he's known around here, came to work on a couple of different things, and the one we focus on here is for some custom hardware that will make it easy to beautifully mount the under-deck heat shielding that will go above the cook stove, wood stove, and diesel heater. It's always extremely satisfying to see skilled hands at the lathe. And finally, the big project we hit in this installment involves fitting out the head with a few things, mainly the pedestal for the sink, which will act as a bit of storage, but will mostly be for hiding the drain pipe. The sink will be perched onto a surface of oak that will go over the top of the water tank, and of course, there's a cut-out for the inspection port at the top of the water tank. The composting toilet gets some pads of locust that it will sit on after it's permanently installed onto the locust shower grate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
