Indonesia - Kalmede waterfall & Mamuya Hotspring in Tobelo

From Tobelo town on the Northern district of Halmahera Island in Indonesia, one can make a nice day trip to scenic Kalimede Waterfall, and end an active day with a well-earned soak in Mamuya Hot Springs. The trailhead to the falls is about 45 min drive from Tobelo. Hike through cacao and nutmeg tree plantations, see the sago palm from which sweet sap is collected to make palm sugar, find wild fruits, and after about 2 hrs of light-to-medium-difficulty walking, descend into the river canyon and be treated to Kalimede falls and pool, which are illuminated by the sun shining through a natural skylight in the rock. Perfect for swimming and picnicking. Back at the car, travel another few miles to Mamuya Hot Springs and relax in the perfect temperature of the natural pool.
