Indonesia -- Glimpses of Penemu & Fam islands

Penemu and Fam islands are on the Western edge of the Raja Ampat (4 Kings) area in Eastern Indonesia. Penemu's "lagoon", with its many small karst islets reminds us of a mini Waiag, (the most photographed area of Raja Ampat) which has many more large karst islands. Towering tortured rock formations rise to the skies, while their reflections glow out of the lagoon waters back-dropped by every hue of blue and green. We climbed to a ridge that gave us a great panoramic view of the lagoon, and we dived on colorful Galaxy Reef just in front of the entrance to the lagoon. At Fam island, we found a local village, Saupapir, that had a nice pier and cleanly swept paths in the village, and flowers and gardens growing out of bare-earth yards. The people probably had never been visited by "yachties" before. We were quite an attraction! Going back to the dock, we were really lucky to see a pair of bright Red Cockatoos. We thank Chris Hamilton from Papua Paradise dive resort for giving us the coordinates of Galaxy Reef, and the Conservation folks for letting us use their mooring at Penemu. Filmed in November 2012.
