In that time a small leak had developed in injector three so as we were in the Canary Islands preparing to cross the Atlantic, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get them removed and checked. I had never changed diesel injectors before so called in a local mechanic, but filmed, asked questions and took notes so I could put together this ‘How to’ blog so I could do it for myself next time. Injector three had poor clearance but as the spray was functioning fine, we reinstalled all the injectors with new washers and gaskets and after some problems with return lines and compression loss, we got them up and running again with a note to replace them all next in out 1500-2000 hours, which coincidently falls more or less the same time as the next timing belt change. Even though Puerto de Las Palmas Marina in Gran Canaria is a relatively cheap marina, the mechanic’s rate was €50/hour which was the most we’ve paid for a mechanic anywhere in Europe, but we were grateful that Jorge from Man Diesel Services for kindly letting us film him and to Augustine the OCC port officer for arranging it. Although these videos show maintenance work on a TMD22 marine diesel engine, many components and assembly techniques are similar across the Volvo Penta range, including: MD22L; MD22P; MD22L-B; MD22P-B; TMD22-B; TMD22P-C; TAMD22P-B; HS25A; HS25A-B; 120S-E; MS2A-E; MS2L-E; MS2B-L; TMD22B PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on most of our video blogs (and on other family channels) due to safeguarding issues regarding minors on the YouTube platform.
