#sailingfamily #familyvlog #sailingaroundtheworld #familytravelvlog #boatlife #bucketlist #lifestyle #travel #sailboat From Ocean to Desert: Sailing Namibia Lüderitz to Walvis Bay We arrive by sailboat in Lüderitz, Namibia and show the marina check-in process, including what it costs and what sailors can expect when clearing in at this remote and historic port on Namibia’s wild Atlantic coast. While in town, we visit the Namibia Maritime Museum, the only maritime museum in Africa, filled with incredible shipwreck history, navigation artifacts, and stories from Namibia’s rugged coastline. After exploring Lüderitz, we set sail on a 3-day offshore passage to Walvis Bay, sharing what life is really like living on a sailboat during a multi-day passage. Shannon also shows her boat life self-care routine, including microneedling her face while living aboard — because even sailors need skincare at sea! Our passage ends with an unforgettable arrival into Walvis Bay, Namibia, where we’re welcomed by amazing Namibian wildlife. Curious seals swim around the boat and pelicans soar overhead as we enter the bay after days offshore. If you enjoy sailing adventures, offshore passages, vanishing coastlines, wildlife encounters, and real life aboard a sailboat, this episode is for you. ⚓ In this episode: 00:00 Arriving in Lüderitz, Namibia 02:10 Marina check-in process & fees 05:45 Exploring Lüderitz 08:30 Namibia Maritime Museum (only one in Africa) 13:20 Preparing for our offshore passage 16:40 3-day sail to Walvis Bay 20:15 Boat life self-care routine (microneedling at sea) 24:30 Wildlife welcome: seals & pelicans in Walvis Bay 🌍 Our route: Lüderitz → Atlantic Ocean → Walvis Bay, Namibia We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house. 🏆 Looking for boating spreadsheets, inside info or wanna help keep the dream alive?
