Ep.49. LIGHTNING! And coming into Boston.

After leaving Florida and sailing in very heavy seas, lightning was the feature of this leg to Boston, especially the first night. Lightning is always a bit concerning for our computers and navigation electronics, especially when alone on the ocean with a 90 ft mast. We put our computers, phones, VHF etc in the microwave, which acts as a Faraday cage to protect them. The seas were rough past Delaware Bay, and then we had upwind sailing as we passed Long Island Sound at night. Lots of boat traffic passing Long Island Sound! We stopped briefly in Montauk for fuel and with good wind and the afternoon not yet gone, we decided to carry on. We sailed into Buzzards Bay and dropped anchor near Cutty Hunk to the sound of a loon. The hauntingly beautiful sound of a loon at night is reminiscent of childhood summers on Stoney Lake in Ontario, Canada. The next morning, we motored through the Cape Code Canal with a 6 knot current pushing us ahead. On exiting the canal we put up the Gennaker and sailed to Boston in light wind. As we entered Boston Harbor, the COVID-19 stillness of the city was not evident from the sea, and the city was as beautiful as always. We have a place at a dock in Charlestown marina, and will be sailing around Cape Cod and the Islands this summer. *Music by Epidemic Sound* A Bitter Love by Sven Karlsson (Intro music) Dearest Friend SPf 80 by Alexandria Woodward Silent Dawn by Christophe Gorman Little Sailor by Leimoti Royal Chaos by 91nova Svalbard – Julyan Bryan Weather any storm by Cody Francis for coming into Boston Lost in Atlantis – by Smartface (end music) *Music by Epidemic Sound* A Bitter Love by Sven Karlsson (Intro music) Dearest Friend SPf 80 by Alexandria Woodward Silent Dawn by Christophe Gorman Little Sailor by Leimoti Royal Chaos by 91nova Svalbard – Julyan Bryan Weather any storm by Cody Francis for coming into Boston Lost in Atlantis – by Smartface (end music) *Web site*: http://www.biotrek-sailing.com *Boat tours* Ep. 1.
