Ep.40. Border Closures – rushing through Mona Passage We left Puerto Rico along the south route and sailed through the rough Mona passage at night with no moon until 2:30 am and very rough seas with large, disorganized waves. Along Puerto Rico we passed a controversial coal plant near Guayama Puerto Rico. The Mona passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is known to be rough, and with wind gusts to 30 knots and the large waves, we decided to sail through the night rather than turn back downwind and stop at an unknown anchorage. We were worried that if the Coronavirus epidemic started to hit the Caribbean Islands, that boarders would close. That predication turned out correct. We checked into the Bahamas just in time, which will be shown on the next video. Currently, we are in the Bahamas and the country is closed. With a well-previsioned boat, we are well positioned to wait it out.
