EP 35 - A Rat's Nest - REWIRING YOUR BOAT - HELLA MARINE, SCANSTRUT, PANELTRONICS

Have you ever wonder how they wired boats in the 1980s? Well we are about to show you what we found when trying to run new marine wire, panel, led lights and systems on Reverie our Pearson 34 sailboat. Back in those days companies use standard copper wire shielded in plastic and then they feed that wire through a cloth shield to provide a shield from chaffing for the wire. The problem is that they strapped this conduit (if you can call it that) to the polybutylene water pipes and placed it in places out of reach. So every time you try to pull or feed a new wire the soggy conduit will bunched up and prevent from either removing or feeding new wire for Reverie. So we made the decision that for our sailboat restoration we would pull the old electrical wire out and re-do it from scratch by installing new marine wire to ensure we have good electric on all critical systems. So on this episode we will show you how we ran new electric marine wire; how we removed old wire; how we installed a brand new Paneltronics AC/DC Panel with 19 Breakers, Scanstrut Cable Seals and other fun stuff. One lesson we hope you get from this is that nothing goes as smooth or as fast as you would like; but in the end, it is very rewarding to see that you have accomplished something special.
