Bluewater Sailing MAYDAY! NZ to FIJI Mid Ocean MAYDAY! Sailing New Zealand to FIJI In this episode we finally get off the dock! We clear customs, untie the lines and set sail, bound for Fiji. It’s a fairly uneventful sail for the first few days and we even get a visit from some humpback whales. We have changeable winds and seas, but plod along nicely until we are shaken by a midnight Mayday call, which reminds us what an unforgiving place the ocean can be. After 9 days, we arrive in the port of Savusavu and are more than ready for a cold beer and to settle into life on Fiji Time... We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
