After 35,000 miles at sea, this still scares the sh*t out of us! (Calico Skies Sailing, Ep.147)

It's late in the season when we finally depart northern Costa Rica bound for Chiapas, Mexico. We hear that the coast of El Salvador & Nicaragua is known to spawn early season hurricanes as well as house intense squall activity. The squalls we encounter have lightening like nothing else we've experienced thus far in our travels. In fact, its the first time we felt compelled to put essential electronics in the oven to protect them in a "faraday cage". The passage starts well enough with acrobatic dolphins playing all around the boat. With the exception of the nightly squalls we are impressed by how peaceful the sea state has been in the Pacific Ocean thus far. We spend much of our evenings ducking in and out of squalls trying to avoid the worst of the lightening. Finally after four days we are far enough North to be past the worst of the squalls.
