Episode 79: Sailing Turkey to Greece with unexpected changes in plans This episode Cass and Shelly continue their adventures as they check out of Turkey and set sail to Greece. The plan is to sail to Symi to check into Greece with a lovely sail, medium winds of 15 knots and mostly motoring…little did they know the forecast was about to change along with the sea state in a matter of an hour. In the middle of the night a blow came through with big seas and directly beating into it making for a very rough passage on us as well as the boat. So around midnight Cass woke Shelly up and we set a storm sail in our headsail to balance the boat and change course. Rather than continuing to beat into the wind and waves directly towards Symi we came off the wind and veered course towards Rhodes. We decided to use it as a safe harbor and checked into Greece here. Now it’s time to explore a new island and what a beauty it is. Rhodes Acropolis, Seven Springs, Lindos Castle and Lindos Beach are all great destinations and sites to explore. Haie - Haie - Haie Natürlich gehen wir nochmal tauchen. Die Barsche sind weg und jetzt hat man auch endlich einen Blick auf die Korallen. Der Pass ist dicht bewachsen mit gesunden Hartkorallen aller Art. Aber die Korallen sind Nebensache, wir sind heiß auf die Haie. Und sie tun uns den Gefallen. Alle da. Hundert, zweihundert und mehr. In mehreren Gruppen bilden sie die 'Wall of Sharks' an Riffkante vom Pass. Wie auf einer Autobahn schwimmen sie in Vierer-Reihe neben und hintereinander her. Wie morgens Autos in der Rushhour. Der Verkehr fließt, kein Stop and Go, aber es wird dicht aufgefahren. Auf der Gegenspur kommen andere Haie zurück und ordnen sich im Reißverschluss-Verfahren mit der Schnauze wieder gegen die Strömung ein. Wir schweben über dem Standstreifen und lassen den Strom an Haien an uns vorbei ziehen. Ein unglaubliches Schauspiel. Wem das noch nicht reicht, der bekommt beim zweiten Tauchgang den ultimativen Kick. Wir tauchen den Haien auf ihrer Spur entgegen. Elegant weichen sie aus. Nach rechts und links, nach oben und unten. Aber sie bleiben nahe bei uns. Neugierig schauen sie, wer ihnen da in die Quere schwimmt. Wir lassen uns etwas zurückfallen, lassen mehr Abstand zu unseren Mittauchern. Wir sind umzingelt. Umso länger wir bei ihnen verweilen, desto näher rücken sie. Ich schätze, dass die Haie um Achim herum keine zwei Meter Abstand mehr halten. Ziehe ich großzügig die 25 Prozent ab, die Fische unter Wasser dichter dran erscheinen, bleiben noch immer nur zwei Meter fünfzig. Das ist nah. Sehr nah. Jetzt bloß nicht darüber nachdenken, dass sie den elektrischen Impuls unseres Herzschlages spüren können. Der Puls ist sicherlich erhöht. "Ich bin kein Futter", klopft das Herz. Achim, der die Kamera bedient, erzählt mir hinterher, dass er den Arm näher an den Körper genommen hat: "Nicht, dass da noch einer denkt, ich will ihn füttern." Aber natürlich lassen sie uns in Ruhe. Langsam treibt uns die Strömung aus ihrem Gebiet. Wir schauen uns an - in ein paar Tagen noch einmal? Unbedingt! Obwohl unsere wundervolle Go Pro uns verlassen hat, habe ich mich trotzdem entschlossen einen eigenen Tauchfilm zu schneiden. Die Aufnahmen sind nicht sooo toll, aber es sind "unsere" Haie. Es ist unser Tauchgang gewesen und Achim hat sich viel Mühe gegeben mit dem Billig-Gerät nicht zu sehr zu wackeln. Atanga.de
