We ran aground and hit as we attempted to enter the anchorage... We spend our last days in Recife working on finally installing the new windlass we bought earlier on our sailing trip. After we finished the work we continue sailing north along the Brazilian coast to an anchorage at Itamaraca. As we enter the river we end up on a shallow sandbank. We managed to get loose and anchored at the river. We spent a few days exploring the area, hanging out with locals and doing dinghy excursions. When we ar about to leave we use the dinghy to map up the inlet, so not to run aground a second time! After spending about a week there we found that we really like the city; lots of Brazilian vibes. The harbor lay beneath a high cliff topped by an impressive Venetian castle. We sent our drone up into the air to take a closer look at this stunning surroundings

Karge Hügel, endlose in Plastik gehüllte Felder und eine Küste, die wenig vom typischen Spaniengefühl versprüht. Dazu treiben immer wieder Hindernisse im Wasser. Sogar eine große Palette kreuzt plötzlich unseren Kurs und wir entgehen ihr nur knapp. 🌊😳 Nach vielen Meilen und wachsamer Fahrt fällt schließlich der Anker in Roquetas de Mar. ⚓ Und mit der Ruhe des Abends fühlt sich selbst diese ungewöhnliche Etappe plötzlich wie ein kleines Abenteuer an. Nous sommes en haute saison pour observer les baleines en Polynésie qui se situe entre la mi-août et la fin octobre. Nous voilà donc de nouveau à Moorea, dans la baie de Vaiere, puis celle d'Oponohu, où plusieurs baleines à bosse avec leur baleineau profitent des eaux chaudes et limpides de Moorea loin du froid et de leurs prédateurs habituels comme les orques. Nous sommes au mouillage dans le lagon et tous les jours nous admirons le spectacle que les baleines nous offrent, c'est merveilleux. Nous ferons également la connaissance de Pitoré, un sympathique polynésien de Moorea qui nous donne le MANA, force sacrée. Nous profitons également du début de la saison des pluies, pour prendre des bains comme jamais dans l'annexe transformée en baignoire et oui...

Beim zweiten Anlauf stehen plötzlich alle Blicke auf uns: Unter großer Anteilnahme der Stegbesucher gelingt das Manöver schließlich sauber und wird mit Standing Ovations belohnt. Anschließend folgt eine rasante Fahrt entlang der Küste nach St. Augustine, der ältesten Stadt der USA. In der Dämmerung suchen wir die schmale Einfahrt zwischen brechenden Wellen und flachen Stellen, volle Konzentration ist gefragt. Der Höhepunkt: das Bojenmanöver bei Dunkelheit vor der berühmten Bridge of Lions. Viel Spaß und gute Unterhaltung an Bord!

Toni’s surgery is now behind her. She’s already had her follow up appointment and some of the stitches removed, with another follow up and the remaining stitches scheduled in three weeks. After attending the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, we flew down to Charleston, South Carolina, where Moments in Time had been waiting for us. We had just one day to get her ready for the trip north to the Chesapeake Bay, but the weather windows refused to cooperate. Still, we were determined to make it home before Toni’s next appointment.
