We’ve had an amazing time exploring Ibiza’s crystal-clear bays, but it’s time to keep heading east toward family reunions and a very delayed parcel in Palma de Mallorca. This episode features a beautiful downwind sail across to Mallorca, stunning anchorages near Palma, and the saga of our long-overdue battery for the new electric outboard motor. Mentre eravamo in cantiere a Port Dickson abbiamo approfittato del breve tragitto in taxi che ci separava da Malacca per fare una visita di due giorni alla città. L'abbiamo trovata molto carina, vivibile e interessante per il mix di culture diverse.

In this episode of the Sailing and Cruising the East Coast of the United States podcast , hosts Bela Musits and Mike Wasserman are joined by recurring guest Charlie Kirchofer to dive deep into the world of marine solar power and lithium-ion battery conversions. For many sailors, moving toward a more sustainable and independent power system is a significant undertaking that is often "harder than it sounds". Charlie shares his firsthand experience as he prepares to overhaul his boat’s electrical systems to achieve true off-grid freedom. The conversation begins with the practical reasons behind this major project. Charlie explains that his primary motivation was a simple, everyday convenience: the refrigerator. Because his boat is kept on a mooring without access to shore power, he previously had to turn off the fridge and empty it every time he left the boat. By installing solar panels and lithium batteries, he can finally keep his fridge running 24/7, allowing him to leave condiments and cold drinks on board for the next weekend’s sail. A major catalyst for this transition was the consistent failure of his existing generator. Charlie recounts the frustrations of dealing with an over-engineered Fisher Panda generator that suffered from chronic electronic issues and poor customer service. Between the difficulty of finding qualified technicians and the literal "headaches" of maintaining a noisy, sound-insulated diesel engine, Charlie decided it was time to move away from fossil-fuel-dependent power. The episode also covers the technical aspects of a marine solar installation. Charlie discusses the "three components" of his new system: flexible solar panels mounted on the bimini, a lithium-ion battery bank, and a high-output alternator. He shares his thought process on why he chose flexible panels over rigid ones to maximize "real estate" on his bimini without cluttering the deck. Listeners will gain valuable insights into the math required to ensure a solar array can handle constant loads like refrigeration and bilge pumps while keeping the batteries topped up. Whether you are looking to ditch a problematic generator or simply want to keep your beer cold without shore power, this episode provides a realistic look at the research, decision-making, and organization required for a successful solar conversion. One cabin. Two guests. Zero compromise. Alexa is unlike anything else in Indonesia's liveaboard scene. A traditional Phinisi sailing yacht built for couples only, she carries just two guests at a time in a single cabin designed around privacy, intimacy, and understated luxury. The craftsmanship is unmistakably Indonesian: aged teak wood, stainless steel, tinted glass. Inside, the details tell a different story - antiques, contemporary art, silk rugs, and fine linens, all hand-curated to create something closer to a private sanctuary than a boat. On board Alexa, the itinerary is yours. Sundowners on a deserted beach. Stargazing from the deck. Swimming with marine life without another soul in sight. Impeccable service, complete privacy, and the open sea. Some experiences are built for two. Learning when and how to reef is the difference between a beautiful day on the water and an overwhelming, exhausting experience. By reducing the size of your mainsail, you balance the boat, reduce the severe angle of heel, and eliminate heavy weather helm. This keeps the crew comfortable and ensures your vessel handles smoothly, even when the breeze pipes up unexpectedly. Here at the Annapolis Sailing School, our expert instructors teach you the practical steps of slab/jiffy reefing right on the water. Whether you are taking a Basic Keelboat Course or brushing up on coastal cruising, learning to tame your sails is a staple of our curriculum. Ready to get hands-on experience mastering the wind? ► We had the opportunity to sail aboard the very first Nautitech 41 S, launched in Rochefort last June. Replacing the 40 Open, this new 41-footer remains true to the philosophy that has made Nautitech’s reputation: delivering an engaging sailing experience without compromising onboard comfort. ► While the project was once again entrusted to Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, the new model introduces a number of significant developments, including the return of the overlapping genoa, a lighter platform, finer hulls, and a new hull shape featuring a concave aft section. The result is a particularly impressive sail area-to-displacement ratio of 12.66 m²/t, allowing the 41 S to perform exceptionally well in light airs while remaining great fun to helm in all conditions. The crew has already recorded a top speed of 15.7 knots in 20 knots of wind. ► Below deck, the layout returns to a more conventional arrangement, with a table in both the cockpit and the saloon. The interior adopts a clean, minimalist style, with just one three-cabin version in the catalog and the use of contemporary materials. The builder also highlights its new ReShape concept, designed to facilitate future upgrades through an architecture developed to accommodate new technologies while simplifying maintenance and modernization. ► This highly anticipated new model will make its first public appearance at the Southampton International Boat Show, while its official celebration is scheduled for the International Multihull Show in La Grande-Motte next April. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Nautitech Catamarans Architects: Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group Length Overall: 41'4" (12.60 m) Hull Length: 40'7" (12.38 m) Beam: 23'11" (7.30 m) Draft: 4'9" (1.44 m) Light Displacement: 9.4 t Mainsail: 743 sq ft (69 m²) Genoa: 538 sq ft (50 m²) Powertrain: 2 × Yanmar 30 hp (40 hp optional) Water: 159 US gal (600 l) Fuel: 106 US gal (400 l) Cabins: 3/4 CE Category: A ► www.nautitechcatamarans.com ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! We swapped the marina for a road trip through Andalucía — and ended up standing at the exact dock where Christopher Columbus set sail in 1492. Sand-covered streets, horses tied to every porch, and a rainy wild-west village that looks like it hasn't changed in 500 years: welcome to El Rocío and Huelva. The weekend kicked off with a curveball — the Harley wouldn't start (again), the boat was coated in Calima sand like breaded chicken, and it rained sideways for most of Saturday. Still, we found the three replica caravels of Columbus, had a very philosophical moment imagining convincing a crew to sail into the unknown on those tiny ships, and discovered that the Casa de Cristóbal Colón was, of course, closed. Back in El Rocío the clouds finally parted just long enough to show you the dirt roads, the horse parking spots nailed to every house, and — naturally — a ceramic shop the Blond could not walk past. The Harley is officially getting shipped home. The adventure continues on the water. Welcome back to another episode of the Sailing and Cruising the East Coast of the United States Podcast! In this episode, Mark Tieszen discusses sailing to the Dry Tortugas, Flotilla Safety, and Cruising Lessons Learned, You might remember Mark from his gripping appearance in Episodes 79 and 80, where he detailed the intense experience of running his 45-foot sailboat aground and washing up on a beach at night. Thankfully, this conversation centers on a much happier adventure—his successful blue water passage from the west coast of Florida to the breathtaking Dry Tortugas. Getting to this remote national park is no small feat. For Mark, this journey was a masterclass in patience and persistence, as it marked his fifth attempt over a ten-year period to successfully make the crossing. He opens up about his previous four attempts and the critical decision-making processes that led him to turn back when conditions weren't right. Mark breaks down the specific challenges of those past trips, including severe weather shifts, a sailing partner’s sudden accident, and the unexpected government lockdowns of COVID-19 in Key West. He also breaks down the factors behind turning around during a fourth attempt with a Florida boating club flotilla, when high easterly winds promised a dangerously uncomfortable anchorage. This episode highlights the immense benefits and safety of sailing in a organized group or flotilla, utilizing a "hop-on, hop-off" itinerary managed by a cruise captain. Mark outlines their multi-day route skipping down the Florida coast to the Everglades, Marathon, and Key West, before finally conquering the final blue water stretch. Beyond the navigation logistics, you will get a fantastic history lesson on the Dry Tortugas and its surrounding strategic areas. Visual Episode Alert: Mark put together custom navigation charts, route diagrams, and gorgeous photos to document this successful trip. If you are listening to our audio-only feed, we highly recommend switching over to the video format! You can easily watch the full presentation by turning on video in your Spotify app or by searching for "Sailing the East" on YouTube. Tune in to learn critical cruising lessons on weather windows, passage planning, anchorage protection, and why knowing when to turn your boat around is the most valuable skill a captain can have! Is there a point where submitting to the government actually becomes a sin? 😳 Most believers are taught to keep their heads down, pray in secret, and obey the laws of the land. But twentieth-century theologian Francis Schaeffer warned that this "quietness" can actually be cowardice in disguise. When a state demands total, unquestioned control over human life and begins destroying the vulnerable, Schaeffer argued that civil disobedience is no longer just an option—it is a mandatory act of faith. If you never draw a line, you aren’t keeping the peace. You’re letting the government replace God. Do you agree with Schaeffer, or do you think believers should always remain submissive to authority? 👇 Drop your thoughts below. #francisschaeffer #theology #civildisobedience #faith #christianity #shorts #history #philosophy

Why would someone start a sailing channel before they even own a sailboat? That's exactly what I did. In this video, I explain why I decided to document my sailing journey years before stepping aboard my own boat. From using YouTube as a way to learn sailing faster, to staying accountable, building consistency, improving my filmmaking skills, and preparing financially, this channel has become much more than just a place to upload videos. I also share an honest update on my current plans, why I'm going to college first, and how that fits into my long-term goal of eventually sailing around the world. This isn't the adventure itself... It's the beginning of it. ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 Why I started a sailing channel before owning a boat 0:23 Using YouTube as a learning tool 2:15 Staying consistent with my sailing dream 4:53 The week I almost quit YouTube 6:08 Why I'm going to college first 7:00 The financial reality of chasing this dream 8:30 My long-term plan for documentary filmmaking 9:08 Why the sailing dream is only delayed 10:23 Final thoughts 🌊 If you enjoy following real sailing journeys from the very beginning, consider subscribing. A simple modification that could save you time, effort, and potential engine problems. In this D-Log, I show you why I fitted a disposable inline fuel filter to our yacht's fuel system and how it makes checking for contamination far easier. Instead of dismantling filters every time you want to inspect your fuel, this simple addition gives you a quick visual check that can help identify problems before they become expensive. Whether you own a sailing yacht, motorboat, canal boat or any diesel-powered vessel, this inexpensive upgrade is well worth considering. In this video you'll learn: Why I added an inline disposable fuel filter Where it fits into the fuel system How it helps monitor fuel condition Why it's a cheap preventative maintenance upgrade Tips to make routine engine checks quicker and easier Preventative maintenance is always cheaper than repairing a damaged engine. We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard). 🎥 LIVE OWNER FEEDBACK | SYDNEY BOAT SHOW 2026 🎣 "I wouldn't have bought the boat without a Quick Gyro." That says everything. For Alex, boating used to be limited by seasickness. After installing a Quick Gyro X3, he and his son are spending more time fishing, whale watching, and enjoying days on the water without worrying about the conditions. Two years later, there's one thing he's certain of: he wouldn't buy another boat without one. 📍 Stand B239 📌 Sydney Showground 📅 30 July – 2 August "I wouldn't buy another boat without a Quick Gyro." - ALEX @quickitaly @sydneyboatshow #SydneyBoatShow #SmartDock #GineicoMarine #MarineInnovation #BoatLife #Yachting

Virkelig for dårligt.

The reality of the sailing lifestyle is a mix of profound freedom and relentless, hands-on work. While social media highlights sunsets and clear water, full-time cruising actually consists of constant weather monitoring, rigorous boat maintenance, and managing daily chores that take 20% to 30% more effort than they do on land.
