We are going to try and move closer to the actual Matanzas Inlet to find shelter from the strong winds arriving overnight into tomorrow and Sunday. The area is notorious for shoaling so we may be unsuccessful. What is life without a little adventure?

We first visited Monica in 2019, when she introduced us to Fernandina Beach for an afternoon. From the start, it felt like our kind of town. I remember strolling the docks at Oasis Marina—now Fernandina Harbor Marina—and thinking, if I ever sailed south, this would be a place worth lingering. Six years later, here we are, and settling in took no time at all. The town brims with restaurants, cafés, pubs, and saloons, making the hardest decision simply where to eat or drink—a challenge we happily embraced. The marina sits along Front and Centre Streets, right in the heart of the historic district. In this chapter of our journey, we wandered Fernandina Beach, savoring local flavors, enjoying lively pubs, and joining the “Dickens on Centre” festival. In this episode we sail to an a bit unknown Italian island despite it has played a role in history, has crystal clear water, lush green hills and can offer high altitude adventures but we begin with boat work at anchor in Portovecchio on Corsica before we make the 90 NM over night crossing to this hidden gem. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Baking bread is probably not something one thinks about when sailing, but I have found that Sailboat Life is allot more about eating, than it is about sailing. You gotta eat. Can you make fresh baked bread on a small sailboat? I am using an ancient Einkorn flour. Einkorn is an ancient, unhybridized wheat with a nutty flavor, rich in nutrients (lutein, B vitamins) and higher in protein than modern wheat. It has weak gluten, making it easier to digest for those with sensitivities, though it is not gluten-free and unsuitable for celiacs.
