Transat Cap Vert / Martinique - J1, 2 et 3. AIS, énergie et nav de nuit. On y est. Parti le 18 septembre du Cap d'Agde, nous sommes arrivés à notre point de départ : Mindelo. Jusque-là, l'idée centrale était d'avancer, d'avancer pour arriver à Mindelo à temps, pour traverser l'Atlantique avec la bonne fenêtre météo. Même si cette escale, Mindelo, a été un temps touristique, puis un temps de préparation technique, l'idée de la traversée était toujours présente. Un grand saut dans l'océan avec un point de non retour équivalent à 10% de la durée totale de la traversée. 1,7 jours, on dira 2 jours. For those that have been following our channel for a while, you know how much work we have been doing on DreamChaser. This week we did some mechanical touch-ups and sailed her. It was great to test out systems, electronics, mechanics and some other things. We still have a lot more to do, but it was a good start. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. In this episode we take you for an aerial tour around one of the biggest marine ports in the Caribbean, Le Marin in the South coast of Martinique. It is a vast area, and a bustling little metropolis on a small Caribbean Island... but one you can find anything you need, from the finest wines and cheeses, to the most difficult to find boat parts! After that we pull anchor and hoist the sails, and set course for the North end of the island to a town called St Pierre, which happens to be home of one of the most famous volcanoes in the Caribbean.. Mt Pelee which is the volcano that killed over 30,000 instantly in one blast in the early 1900s.. and even though the volcano is still technically active, they rebuilt the entire town in its exact position as before!
