This sail is a great example of what www.PrecisionSails.com can design. This replacement Genoa for a C&C 25 was made with Challenge Sailcloth's Warp Drive Tri Radial dacron to allow for better sail shape. A reef point was added to give versatility to the sail and a few tell tale windows to help this skipper shape his sail properly. Sailing PIRATES or FISHERMEN in remote tropical paradise - If you'd like to support the creative process please take a look at our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing, PIRATES or FISHERMAN We were sailing and this boat pulled up beside us, claiming they had broken down, we had no idea of their intentions. Were they Pirates or fishermen? Friend or foe? It’s unusual for cruising boats to attract unwanted attention while sailing in Fiji but it’s not unheard of. The only way to find out what these guys wanted was to go outside, face them, trust them and bathe in the serendipity that followed. Music Cricket Farm – Bending Spoons David Mumford – The Path David Mumford – Walking in the Country Looking for Alaska – In the end Who are we? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before setting sail with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Never stop wandering, never stop wondering. #TheCruisingKiwis

Santorini it is! We make a last minute decision not to skip this island and boy was it worth it. Not only did we score a super cheap mooring ball on the neighbouring island but we also got cheap 1 euro tickets for a ferry to Oia, Santorini. After a week here we make our way to the island of Milos. It's time to swap up the slow pace of sailing life for some speed. Rental of a quad bike is a must to see this island in all it's glory. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Our third tips video, focused on cabin headlinings, specifically ones made from Vinyl with a foam backing. We show the problems we have had, what we would do differently next time and what we are going to do to finish the job. We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. Lots more detail on our blog at https://sustainablesailing.net/ We are on Ko-Fi! where you can support us for the cost of a coffee :-) https://ko-fi.com/sustainablesailing
The first of the rudder fittings is complete after putting some thought into a jig for the fabrication and alignment. I also assemble the sail drive to get it ready for putting back into the boat. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. You make a real difference!!
