Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. On this episode of Sailing on a Whim, we finally leave the marina to start our cruising adventure. First stop? The Florida Keys! Lots of preparation have finally paid off and our sailing adventure truly begins. And we absolutely love it! This crazy adventure started in early 2018 as we started researching learning how to sail, buy a boat, outfit her, and take off for a life on the open seas. There has been a huge learning curve trying to make all of this happen and we want to share with you everything that we have learned and have some fun along the way. We are excited (and a little nervous!) to share this journey with you. We hope that you learn a little from our experiences and maybe inspire you to make changes to live the life you want! —————————————————— SUBSCRIBE & FOLLOW https://www.sailingonawhim https://www.youtube.com/sailingonawhim https://www.facebook.com/sailingonawhim https://www.instagram.com/sailing_on_a_whim https://www.twitter.com/sailingonawhim —————————————————— CONSIDERING BECOMING A PATRON https://www.patreon.com/sailingonawhim —————————————————— GEAR: Cannon EOS Rebel SL2 - https://amzn.to/2y2Hty1 Cannon Powershot G7x Mark II - https://amzn.to/2S6rOVu DJI Mavic Air - https://amzn.to/2W2OYgz GoPro Hero5 - https://amzn.to/2S8FizU Fantasea Line FG7X II - https://amzn.to/2xSuY8q Rode DDG-GO Deadcat - https://amzn.to/2Y4AT4G DJI Mavic Pro Plantinum - https://amzn.to/3eU5tUT —————————————————— RECOMMENDED READING: Learn to Sail – https://sailingonawhim.com/learn-to-sail Cruising Life – https://sailingonawhim.com/cruising-life Maintenance & Repair – https://sailingonawhim.com/maintenance-%26-repair Inspiration & Adventure – https://sailingonawhim.com/inspiration-%26-adventure —————————————————— MUSIC FROM EPIDEMIC SOUND —————————————————— The Abacos area of the Bahamas was devastated by Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 41 In this episode, we start building our future home, by installing the first plank of our cabin: the coaming! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Just following the wind and sailing into a beautiful small cove...
This is Episode 50 of our adventure. Our second week in France and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We got caught in a squall, the sail-bag broke, we lost the jib halyard inside the mast, we lost more expensive items overboard, we had a broken spreader light to fix, Hugh tried to speak French with hilarious consequence. But we still manage to have fun visiting Lézardrieux, Paimpol and Port Blanc. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. Tan Bark is a unique sail that is typically used on traditional wooden sail boats. The color comes from the egyptian cotton sails that were soaked in a solution from tree bark in order to reduce rot. If you are considering Egyptian Tanbark Mainsails, Headsails, Mizzens or Staysails please choose your sail designer carefully. Tanbark is not dacron and needs to have special attention paid to it. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/m/mariner/mariner-32/mainsails/product/mariner-32-cruising-mainsail/
