When I was driving around Bora Bora on Saturday 16 July 2023, I was lucky to see a Drum Band rehearsing their performance for that night competition. I love drums & percussion, so I did not hesitate to stop and film their general rehearsal as well as the competition that night. For me the best part is the rehearsal because I was able to be much closer to the players and the sound was more enveloping than during the night performance where the public was very far away from the performers. Sorry, I did not get the names of the groups to share. Thanks to all musicians and competition organisators!
In this video we start out in Ua Pou, where we do lots of diving. Then we sail out towards Ua Huka, and are, - not long after departure - visited by a large pack of dolphins. We managed to film these dolphins underwater which provided some stunning footage. On Ua Huka we did some diving as well, but spent most our time above water. We use two cameras to film our content. A DJI Action 4 camera and a DJI Pocket 2 camera. Our sound comes from the cameras, and also from a set of Røde Wireless GO II microphones in our speeches.

Previously in 2019, when Ithaca sailed in Patagonia, we saw whales a few times, but mostly far and distance. In the early morning 28th Feb 2024, we left the anchorage of Puerto Aguirre and heading north. We spotted some whales swimming in the channel. Two humpback whales took us in surprise when I was videoing them excitedly. Because only in video, I realised that the whales were crossing the channel in front of our path. We must cut the engine immediately to slow down the boat to give them way. In reward, the whales spouted all the times and once passed, they showed us a beautiful tail splash before heading down. Afterwards, we sailed back to Caleta ITHACA, 30 nautical miles, to enjoy this anchorage one more time, for it's rich crabs and quiet solitaire. We flied the drone to give a full view of the anchorage, to keep the good memory of Patagonia. #patagoniachile #sailaroundtheworld #sailboatlife #chile #ithacacruisinglife music by Xavier Luna, Lost On You

Unforgettable Skippered Sailing Holidays in Croatia with Friends Imagine sailing through the shimmering turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, with the sun on your face and your best friends by your side. You’re on a sleek yacht, cruising past Croatia’s stunning coastline, hopping from one idyllic island to the next. No stress, no rigid schedules—just endless fun, relaxation, and adventure, all under the guidance of a professional skipper. This is the magic of a skippered sailing holiday in Croatia—a perfect getaway for those looking to explore beautiful destinations while enjoying quality time with friends. Why Choose a Skippered Sailing Holiday? When planning a sailing holiday in Croatia with friends, hiring a skipper is the ultimate way to elevate your experience. Here’s why: Expert Guidance: Your skipper is an experienced local, familiar with the best spots for swimming, dining, and exploring. They’ll craft a custom itinerary based on your group’s preferences, ensuring you visit Croatia’s hidden gems and avoid the tourist traps. Stress-Free Sailing: With a skipper in charge of navigating, docking, and managing the yacht, you and your friends can simply relax. No one in your group needs sailing experience—your skipper takes care of all the technical aspects while you enjoy the journey. Total Flexibility: Want to extend your stay in a quiet bay? Or maybe you’d like to check out a popular beach club on Hvar? A skippered sailing holiday gives you complete flexibility to customize your trip on the go. Insider Tips: Skippers are not just captains; they’re also your personal guides. They know the best local restaurants, secret spots, and hidden beaches that most tourists never get to experience. The Ultimate Croatian Adventure with Friends Croatia is a sailing paradise, with its sun-soaked islands, crystal-clear lagoons, and charming coastal towns. A skippered sailing holiday gives you the freedom to explore this stunning country at your own pace, stopping wherever the mood takes you. Fun with Friends: Sailing Adventures and Relaxation One of the greatest joys of a skippered sailing holiday is that every day brings new opportunities for fun and relaxation. Here’s what you can expect: Swimming and Snorkeling: The Adriatic’s crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Your skipper will guide you to the best swimming spots, whether it’s a quiet lagoon or a secluded cove. Chill Days on Deck: When you’re not exploring the islands, there’s nothing better than lounging on the deck of your yacht, soaking up the sun, listening to music, and chatting with your friends. Bring some snacks, your favorite drinks, and enjoy the slow pace of life at sea. Exploring Island Towns: Croatia’s coastal towns are full of history, culture, and local charm. Wander the narrow streets of ancient towns like Korčula and Vis, sample local cuisine, and discover hidden corners that only a local skipper can show you. Sunset Views: The sunsets in Croatia are something truly special. Every evening, you’ll have front-row seats to watch the sky turn vibrant shades of orange and pink as the sun dips below the horizon. Whether you’re anchored in a quiet bay or dining at a seaside restaurant, it’s a moment you’ll remember forever. Why a Skippered Yacht Charter is Perfect for Friends When you’re planning a group holiday with friends, a skippered yacht charter in Croatia is the perfect choice for a number of reasons: Private Experience: A skippered yacht gives you complete privacy and flexibility. Unlike crowded resorts or organized tours, this is your trip, your way. You can relax, party, or explore at your own pace without having to worry about strangers. Bonding Time: There’s something about being on a boat together that brings people closer. Whether you’re sharing stories over dinner on deck or laughing as you jump into the water for a swim, every moment feels special when you’re surrounded by your closest friends. Adventure and Relaxation: A skippered sailing holiday strikes the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. Spend one day hiking and exploring, and the next simply lounging on the boat, sunbathing, and swimming. It’s a holiday where everyone in your group can find something they love. Ready to Set Sail? A skippered sailing holiday in Croatia with friends is the ultimate way to experience the best of what this beautiful country has to offer. With the freedom to explore stunning islands, swim in crystal-clear lagoons, and create lifelong memories, there’s no better way to enjoy the Adriatic. So gather your friends, pack your swimsuits, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. With a professional skipper at the helm, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy every unforgettable moment. Croatia is calling—are you ready to set sail?

Assaqutac, Greenland is an abandoned village near Sisimiut. These are the Greenlandic names.
A dinghy ride from an anchored S/V Breskell to the beach at Mittimatalik, called Pond Inlet by non-locals. Pond Inlet is on the northern edge of Baffin Island and is a popular stopover when transiting the Northwest Passage. Fuel was available but there was no dock. I had to ferry it out in the dinghy.

At 0904 on the 6th December 1917 a massive explosion ripped through Halifax, Nova Scotia instantly killing 1600 people, injuring 9000 and destroying the city wholesale. The blast displaced 20,000 souls who then had to deal with a deep winter blizzard over the next few days. It was to say the least a catastrophe and still ranks as the largest non-nuclear explosion created by man. How did it happen? Through a simple disregard for the International Collision Regulations and an unbroken series of 'red flag' events that caused to ships to have a slow speed collision. That one of the vessels was carrying af all cargo of munitions bound for the war in Europe would not be realized, until 20 minutes after the collision an explosion equivalent to 2.7 Kilotons of TNT left a scar on the city and on the psychology of it's inhabitants that would still be felt now, 105 years later. When I was growing up, my parents read me 'Swallows & Amazons' by Arthur Ransome. That first book, and the series of adventure stories for children Ransome followed it up with, still to this day remain for me some of the most magical and endearing tales of my youth. You can imagine then, my excitement at discovering a Ransome story here in the Mariner's Library that allows me as an adult and a sailor to connect with Ransome once again and discover that he also was a sailor. His stories perhaps underpin my love of the ocean, developed at a young age- it's wonderful at 45 years old to discover that he really did know his tack from his gybe, and had already done his hours at the tiller, 60 years before I heard his stories. I have really enjoyed reading this story and I hope in turn you get pleasure from listening. If you find that you like this authors style I would point you towards 'Swallows & Amazons' and the Arthur Ransome society in the UK https://arthur-ransome.org/ If you would like to support this podcast, which is published for free, five days a week (Tues-Sat) please follow the link over to Patreon, where you can join our community and for $5 a month gain access to loads more exclusive audio books recordings just like this one.
