The wind freshened, steady and kind. And for a time—it was joy. The variety of weather I’ve encountered this day was nothing short of spectacular — like a week, or even a month of impulses, all compressed into a single day. Passing Selsey Bill on the outer route in over 20 knots of wind was a first for me — one I won’t forget. After rounding the cape, I shook out the reefs in a perfect breeze, reaching smoothly toward Portsmouth as darkness settled. We set sail from Vaasa, leaving the home harbor of Vaasan Merenkyntäjät Ry behind us. The plan had been ambitious: to reach the Mediterranean by autumn. But as often happens at sea, the journey itself reshaped our plans. There were so many fascinating places along the way—especially in the Netherlands—that we found ourselves lingering, exploring, and enjoying the voyage without rushing. In the end, we made it as far as northern Spain, to the city of Avilés, where we decided to spend the winter of 2025–26. The crossing of the Bay of Biscay turned out to be one of the most memorable and significant passages of our trip—also the longest continuous sail we had ever attempted. Another demanding leg was the passage from Cuxhaven to Den Helder, which kept us at sea for two nights.

Le finiture esterne prevedono che tutti i ponti siano rivestiti in tek. La prima barca è con finiture gelcoat bianche, ma se gli armatori lo richiedono c’è anche la possibilità di avere lo scafo completamente verniciato. A poppa è presente una piattaforma idraulica che permette di avere un accesso al mare, di alare il tender e di metterlo dentro al garage. All’interno del ponte di coperta è presente una cucina a C posta sul lato di dritta e una zona living con divano e tavolo basso, a prua della cucina abbiamo la timoneria interna e difianco la scala di accesso al ponte sottostante dove ci sono le cabine. Nella zona esterna a poppa c’è spazio per un grande tavolo da pranzo, un’area relax con divanetti e la scala di accesso al ponte superiore dove avremo un’altra zona social e relax con lettini, angolo cottura, frigo piastra e barbecue. La stazione di comando sul ponte superiore avrà tre poltrone e tutta la stazione di controllo. All’ estrema prua, passando dai due camminamenti laterali in coperta, si ha un’altra zona living con divanetti e cuscini.

ORIANDA carries remarkable history and elegance in her strong bones and may be the perfect family yacht. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/781/ORIANDA Massively but finely built and impressively restored, maintained and upgraded, her interior volume is large for a yacht from this period and of this size: two double en-suite cabins, two twin cabins, and a separate crew cabin for three – all exuding pre-war style yet modern comforts; vast space on deck for dining, and sailing - though her staysail schooner rig requires little tending once set. ORIANDA received a new deck less than ten years ago, and a completely new rig in 2022. A classic yacht optimised to stay out of port and large enough to make this an option is a rare thing.

A settembre ho trasferito Tornavento da Viareggio a La Spezia. Sono stato ospite della Sezione Velica della Marina Militare e della mia Sezione della Lega Navale Italiana, di cui sono socio. Una volta arrivato, avevo la necessità di ammainare la randa e consegnarla ai miei fantastici velai, Sail Design Viareggio, per un lavaggio e, dopo circa quattro anni, per rimuovere anche alcuni vecchi loghi. Riavuta la randa — in tempo record, ma ormai mi hanno abituato a questi interventi super rapidi e assistiti — dovevo uscire nel Golfo di La Spezia per testare i circuiti dei terzaroli e provare il nuovo cartografico Lighthouse di Raymarine. Come sempre, quando dico di essere solo a bordo, in realtà ho degli aiutanti… Qui vi presento Mario, il nostro pilota automatico Raymarine che, fino ad oggi, senza mai fare una piega, ha timonato Tornavento per alcune migliaia di miglia nautiche. È un video home made, nulla di super professionale, ma ci tenevo a farne uno dove mostro come utilizzo alcuni strumenti Raymarine, e come isso e ammaino la randa. Tutto qui: molto semplice, con una sola videocamera che “pilotavo” dal telefono. C’è un molo, rientrando verso la Sezione Velica, e sulla sinistra — dove sono ormeggiate le barche di Vela Tradizionale, un’associazione che personalmente mi piace moltissimo — non riesco mai a resistere: devo passarci vicino ogni volta e, da Pandora a Primo Amore, faccio sempre un inchino lungo tutto il loro molo. E infine… non me lo so spiegare, ma vedere aprirsi il ponte di Mirabello e passarci sotto è sempre una grande emozione! Non posso chiudere senza ringraziare, come sempre, i marinai che mi danno supporto all’ormeggio: i cari amici Adriano, Matteo e Claudio. Ma quanto è bella La Spezia con un filo di sole, eh?! ☀️ Spero che il video vi piaccia, nonostante la qualità non perfetta, e prometto di farne altri ancora più belli!
