Sailboat Wrecks on Christmas, just the present you want in these crazy times. When a sailboat runs aground, all you can do is pray it isn't yours. Come to find out, it was Hayden's Pearson 303. We had previously toured the boat, and helped Hayden sail it down. He was planning to sail south to Florida with us after his own refit. Christmas day storms decided that wouldn’t happen. (We sought long and hard to find the video of the boat being salvaged. We did not know how to get a boat off the rocks and we cringe watching it every time.) Now, we help him haul out and inspect his boat. Watch to see the damage, and see how it happened! Here’s an interesting view of an Exploration 45 from the front. It reveals what Olivier Racoupeau refers to as ‘beam stability’, in his interview on the Garcia Yachts channel. Katy and Jerry on GX25 - Idril pulled up to the dock next to GX27 - Snow Gum. The four of us humans had a good chat about all manner of things relating to Exploration 45s. The benefit of ground effect….using a cushion of air beneath a wing that is flying close to the surface is well known, especially to birds. Back in the 1950s the Soviet Union developed a range of extraordinary looking ground effect craft. The Caspian Sea Monster was 100m long and could do 400 knots. Today, composite experts Moore Brothers are involved in a company called REGENT, Regional Electric Ground Effect Nautical Transportation, that works on a similar principle but adds hydrofoils in the equation.

Late November 5th, 2018 San Juan Island fire got the call for an elderly, nearly blind and deaf dog that had gone over a cliff. After the initial firefighter rappelled over the cliff to comfort the injured dog a complicated twin rope hauling system was rigged up to raise the firefighter with the dog at his side.
