In this episode, we make it to Taormina and drop anchor for the night. While we’re asleep, the weather takes an unexpected turn — this time for the better — so we decide to take advantage of the window and motor sail to Rochella through the Straits of Messina. We end up leaving about an hour later than planned, which means there’s a good chance we’ll arrive after dark. Still, it’s the only window all week where the wind and current aren’t working against each other, so we go for it. The crossing starts out calm, with the wind at around 35–37° apparent at 7-10 Knots , and as we turn the corner north, the swell builds a bit and the wind shifts to a perfect 60° apparent — not too strong, but ideal for a smooth sail. We arrive just as the sun sets, and we’ve got some solid stats to share from the passage. Enjoy the video — and as always, sail safe! It’s our last day in Greece aboard the charter catamaran, sailing from the beautiful island of Agistri back to Athens. As we entered the marina, a line of a couple dozen boats all tried to dock at once with the wind picking up—things got a little hectic, but we managed to get in safely. After one final meal together, it was time to say goodbye to Aubrey from Sailing Miss Lone Star. It’s been a fun collaboration, and we’ll definitely sail together again in the future. From there, I flew back to the USA, launched my old boat, and began a solo sail to Annapolis. A big transition, and an exciting next chapter! Motorcycle, thunderstorm, manatees, osprey, snorkeling, crab, tarpon, dancing, sun bathing, bikini. Thank you so much subscribers! Ya'll rock! ❤️ We're still waiting for our car to be repaired and are using the Hayabusa motorcycle as our transportation. Riding in protective gear we cruised down to Key West for the day. Since Steve couldn't wear sunglasses under his visor and Karen's visor had a lot of crazing, we ordered a tinted visor for Steve and a clear one for Karen. There has been a lot of great wildlife around and hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we do. A rather close thunderstorm caused over seven inches of rain to accumulate in less than 24 hours. The lightning strikes were quite frequent and very close. Luckily no strikes on either of Isabella's masts, whew! As the water temperature increases, snorkeling is becoming more fun. The day we went the water looked extremely clear, but when we started snorkeling it was cloudier than anticipated and there was a lot of seagrass floating around. It was clear enough to see several small fish and conchs.
