Such a beautiful calm day to stop into Ft. Bragg for a few days on my trip north. I had been having fuel issues since I departed the bay, but I was able to completely fix them while in Noyo. I also met some amazing folks who fed me well, told stories of their experiences at sea, gave me sound advice about the seas I was to encounter along the way, and kept an eye on Desiderata while I returned home to work for a week. I had never been in the seas between Noyo and Cape Mendocino and the advice I learned was taken with me when I departed Noyo. I cannot wait to return and visit again. Until then I will be giving myself a headach staring at the computer putting together the rest of the trip:)

#catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sanibelisland #marcoisland #hurricaneian In 2021, we sailed to Sanibel Island and enjoyed the fishing, bike riding and beauty of the island before Hurricane Ian hit September 2022. Our hearts go out to those who lost so much. This video is in remembrance of Sanibel. While there we visited the JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, the Shell Museum (better than it sounds!), and caught snook. It was a beautiful sail back to Marco Island, averaging 11 knots SOG with over 19 AWS, followed by a calm night anchored in front of the beach. Back at the dock, Stephen worked on his bird deterrent methods. The bird droppings and seeds they leave behind are an issue on the docks. So, Stephen fabricated a medieval spike device and we placed it on the top of our mast. It helped somewhat, but then they decided to land on the spinnaker sheet and the rigging. Recently Stephen read a book called “The Fuzz”, which discusses all of the ways that park ranges deal with wildlife and the bottom line is - nothing will work. It may work for a couple of hours, but they always figure it out and move to their next favorite spot. So, Christmas decorations just had to distract us from the bird problem. Neil grew up sailing in the UK and quickly became accustomed to the range of weather conditions that it serves up. By the time he was a few months old, he completed his first English Channel crossing. He fell into maritime training as a teenager at his local sailing club, before emigrating to Australia and launching his own Sydney based training company 'Above and Beyond Boating'. Unlike some of the monotonous "death by powerpoint" courses that are run, Neil decided to pioneer a different approach to training through real life scenario, video based training, that people could complete remotely. When COVID came along, this went from a great idea to the "only show in town" as the traditional classroom trainers, shelved most of their courses for 2 years. Neil shares some great lessons from his decades clocking up tens of thousands of miles at sea and provides some great insights into the simple safety things we take forgranted. With the help of two close friends and my youngest son, we moved While One from Coral Gables up to Titusville. We made several stops along the way including No Name Harbor, Marine Stadium Park, Lake Worth (Palm Beach), Stuart, Fort Pierce and ultimately Cape Canaveral. We had a scare with our first squall (would our stock anchor hold???) and had a long visitation from a school of dolphins. Minorca, un gioiello circondato da acque dal colore verde smeraldo e dai fondati ricchi di pesci colorati. Le coste frastagliate e rocciose, offrono spettacoli naturali mozzafiato, creando tantissime piccole grotte in cui si può accedere a nuoto. Caratteristica dell'isola sono anche i fiordi stretti in cui si ancora e si usa la cima rimandata a terra. Non mancano nemmeno lunghe spiagge di sabbia e acqua cristallina. Abbiamo navigato lungo la costa sud, ma anche la parte nord di Minorca offre spettacoli altrettanto interessanti, con tanti parchi naturali e aree marine protette. La pioggia ci ha costretto in porto il primo giorno, ma ci ha consentito di fare anche i turisti e scoprire la città di Mahon, gustando tapas e gin... Torneremo sicuramente a Minorca! We had a great morning out on the Harbour on Saturday, commissioned by the CYCA to film the start of the Audi Centre Sydney Flinders Islet Race. A cracking start from the bigger boats gave for great drone footage and tracking shots down the harbour.

La réduction de la production et de la consommation de plastique doit rester prioritaire si nous voulons remédier à la crise des plastiques. Tout comme la garantie d’une composition de ce matériau transparente et sans danger pour la santé et l’environnement. Cependant, dans une optique de transition efficace vers une économie circulaire, de multiples solutions se rependent sur le marché, notamment pour améliorer les chiffres désastreux du recyclage du plastique.   Lors d’une interview faite en octobre 2022, nous avons eu l’opportunité d’échanger avec le directeur scientifique de Carbios, qui nous a présenté leur solution de recyclage basée sur une technologie biologique : l’enzyme. Cette innovation permettrait un recyclage plus performant du PET pour l’ensemble de ses usages ainsi que des textiles en polyester. Nous avons également parlé d’autres utilisations possibles des enzymes pour le traitement d’autres polymères. Certaines sont déjà prouvées d’autres sont en développement.
