@Barefoot Doctors Sailing - With only 16 days till we have to pay for our replacement Leopard 45, our insurance has still not paid us out, despite the claim being "approved" by the assessor 5 months ago. This creates a major problem as the funds have to obtained to honour the contract. The insurance company is claiming complexities of the multiple companies involved and even though we know this should not make any difference to them paying us out, they are not budging... We do have lawyers to represent us and we have been reassured that payout "will be made" but no dates and no amounts.... We also discuss the fire sage and where we are at with that and give you good information for Leopard owners that the fire was not caused by a fault of the boat. At the same time we are tidying up our 10m steel canal boat for sale and continuing to buy all the gear we need for the L45.... We discuss also getting Long Stay French Visas to allow a 12 month stay in the EU, hard drives for data storage on boats and guidance on tool selection and kitchen gear on boats. FIRE SAGA The Barefoot Doctors are still waiting for the conclusion to the fire saga, insurance still not paid out, and confirmation of cause of fire still in the hands of the legal and insurance companies - we wait in anticipation.... Can you believe that this is episode #50? My, how time flies. In this episode, we have an epic sail from Long Island to Georgetown, Exumas, Bahamas. We were sailing 9.5 knots! I caught and filleted a 36" Mahi, and Jeff got to clean up the mess. Our small Leopard flotilla sailed from Georgetown to Boise Cay (I accidentally said Rat Cay in the video) to see the best blow hole in The Bahamas, followed by some relaxing beach time at Lee Stocking Island. Back on Long Island, the Aurora and Kailua contingents rode bikes and scooters all over the north end, visiting the Columbus Monument and the Busted Bridge Restaurant. Unfortunately, it was closed. But we all enjoyed the ride, including the 4-legged friends. And listen for "Can We Go" by Nevertel. It's our son's band. We're very proud of them. Check them out via the link below. Our Vessel Vanguard program alerted us that it was time to inspect our bilge pumps. It's a good thing, too, because our port side pump was broken. This was the first time we replaced one, and taking Nigel Calder's Marine Electronics course at Cruiser's University last October helped prepare us for the task. Finally, we made a quick trip home to visit the Miami Boat Show, see our families, spend time a my parents' antique steam car museum, The Collection on Palmetto (see link below), and attend Jeff's friend's wedding in Miami. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, Sold Everything that we owned, Shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa, flew to Cape Town, South Africa airport, to explore South Africa including an amazing safari, touring around Cape Town, move onto a Balance 482 Catamaran, then sailed to St Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha, Brazil, Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French), St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas, Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, Eleuthera, Anegada, Bahamas, Cape Canaveral, St. Augustine Florida, USA, Matthews Virigina, Zimmerman's marine for a haul out, and more!
