4 June 2022 Departure: 10.00 Arrival: 12.00 (ish) Distance: 13 miles Weather: Start of the day somewhat cloudy, no wind and around 11.00 the sun broke through. 20 degrees Details: we met the Welvaeren (Bavaria 37) and her crew. Marcel and Astrid. After installing the ingenious anchor rinser with the surface water high-pressure washer, we raise the anchor and head towards Marstal. The Welvaeren is in Laboe and has, not entirely coincidentally ;-), plotted the same destination. The trip will be entirely by engine, as there is not much wind. It picks up later in the afternoon. So we dock in time and get a great spot along the quay. We do a tour of the village and score tie-wraps (Every ship has tie-wraps and…duck tape as its ‘basic ingredient’). We do a tapas lunch in the street and then go back on board to watch the armada of sailboats coming in on the aft deck in the sunshine. The Welvaeren comes in and moors in front of us. We have hilariously special German neighbours, with a beautiful boat. We discover that it is customary to provide your neighbours with beer when you come alongside….we welcome this tradition 😉 After drinks on the aft deck, we walk to ’the Gammle Vingaard’, the restaurant where we continue the fun while enjoying good food. #marstal #danmark #sailing

Hakodate is the 2nd city of the Northern Island of Hokkaido. It is also the first port that opened up to commerce abroad during the Meiji Restoration. In fact it was built for that purpose. Hakodate is also a major center of Japanese Seafood with markets and restaurants second to none! Hokkaido on the other hand is very different to the other main islands of Japan. Is a bit less historic in the sense that it was not the birthplace of the Japanese culture but it has a unequaled nature, many ski resorts and incredible sea food. Sapporo de capital is the most modern and sophisticated city in the Island of Hokkaido. It hosted the winter games in 1972, that and beer is what put Sapporo in the world map. Watch this video and you will realize why we loved Hakodate, Sapporo and Hokkaido in general.
