Monica is back as we struggled to find time with our conflicting schedules and July’s weather forecasts to go sailing. We ended up picking a day and just going out. The day was heavily overcasted with bouts of spitting rain but we were committed. With Monica onboard to help film, we decided to capture the simple moments of the mechanics of going out for a sail. Join us as we leave the dock, fuel up, raise the sails, sail in very light winds, drop the sails, and return to the dock. While not as glamorous as sailing the tropical Tradewinds with a boat full of bikinis, it does demonstrate the steps that must be taken to eventually head to that horizontal line that calls us. Sailboat life: where a simple fix can turn into a never-ending saga. Join us for a day of trial and error (emphasis on error) as we try to patch our AC up. And of course, our loyal pup gets to join the fun because leaving them behind in this heat would be, well, ruff. We're currently bobbing around at Merritt Island, but the real challenge is getting to the Amazon locker a mile away - I mean, it's not like we have anything better to do. Then we'll stock up on groceries, because fresh veggies are like boat batteries - they don't last long. After that, it's off to Doc's Bait House with our loyal pup for some well-deserved drinks, because boat life is hard work. Time to get this boat party started - with a working AC, that is! The old pump was toast, but our shiny new Seaflo pump is here to keep things cool. We're also giving the plumbing a good ol' spring cleaning to prevent any future flops. And the cherry on top? Everything went off without a hitch, the boat's chillin', and we can focus on other projects before we are off to Bahamas. One of the most visible changes in my effort to convert my 40-foot racer/cruiser into a better cruising boat was the creation of tall cockpit coamings. Taller coamings keep the cockpit dry and they provide back support when sitting in the cockpit. While cruising, the cockpit is your living room so it should be comfortable for reading, entertaining, eating and just watching the world go by. My boat was built with very low coamings, because low ones are easy to get around when racing. This was a major undertaking since the coamings have to carry the loads of the main sheet and primary winches. Watch this video to see the transformation.

In this episode, with guests aboard we tour the area of Gili Asahan, Gili Gede, and Lombok itself. This includes a demonstration of how the iconic Indonesian Rendang sauce is made. They use all fresh ingredients, including making their own coconut milk. It was really interesting knowing about the differences between the little chili peppers. Later in the week, the vacation moved off the boat to the Selong Selo resort overlooking Selong Belanak beach, where we rented a large surfboard and tried to catch a few tiny waves. Unsuccessfully.
