Then just a day's weather window - light winds, but enough to sail and sometimes Rutland Water does its own 'weather' thing and comes up with a surprise. We started with very light winds, but launched anyway and there was enough wind to sail. We sailed out passed Normanton Church and over to Whitwell Creek before tacking and heading up towards the dam A wind change and a pickup made for more interesting sailing. We head on a broad reach towards Hambleton Peninsula and then saw the cruiser fleet sailing well in the distance - down the southern leg of Rutland Water. Another wind change and we were tacking towards the end of the leg, at times sailing close to the cruisers and at one stage passing through comfortably. The wind changed again and we tacked back towards Rutland Sailing Club and the pontoons enjoying the sailing. In the distance we saw 30+ Waszp foiling out towards the 'Pond' for their race - taking advantage of the improved wind. BTW I did get my hands on the helm a few times too. Mike took us back and did a perfect landing at the pontoons. Boat recovered and back on her trailer in the boat park - ready for next time - soon we hope.

Today I decided to remove a few of the teak planks that appeared to be rotted. I removed the sealant, the boards and then used an ultrasonic scraper to remove the old sealant/epoxy that had been put down once before when it appears someone worked on the teak in the past. Happy Fourth of July! In this vlog we do a lot of prep work right up until we put the first couple layers of primer on our sailboat deck. With regards to the core in the questionable large area. It really did feel very dry, and when we compared the core from the questionable area to the mush that came out of the cockpit sole, that was our comparative analysis. At the time we felt this was enough and since we didn't have a moisture meter on hand we felt fine using our eyes and hands to determine the moisture level instead of relying on a device that may give us a number we don't know what to do with. After reading the comments on our last video, however, we decided to order a cheap moisture meter so we can get an idea of wetter areas of the deck and keep track of them as we cruise. We haven't gotten a chance to use it yet though. In a perfect world we would have had an unlimited amount of time in the shed for us to be able to re-core the whole deck, however that was simply not the case. We only had to the end of the month so we had to get moving. Since the core seemed dry everywhere except the cockpit sole, we decided to close up the inspection squares and paint. Going forward, we are planning on fixing the flex in the deck by glassing stringers on the underside from down below. This won't be hard as we're gutting the interior anyway. We're going to tie in the stringers into our design for the new headliner, and they will serve multiple purposes. The stringers will be a base for the headliner to be mounted to as well as adding structural integrity to the deck.
