The Nomad diving system is a portable diving system that will allow us to dive to depths of 30 feet for 45-60 minutes per battery charge. We purchased it in case we have to go below and conduct work on the hulls on “Moments in Time”, such as repairs, anodes replacements, bottom cleaning, anchor checks, and of course that large lobster that might be taunting me below. SCUBA tanks are heavy, they need to be securely stowed onboard, and require refilling, whether from a compressor onboard or onshore. For us, the Nomad system met our needs, easily portable with simple logistics, and will open a whole new underwater world for us with endless possibilities. Nous devons quitter Toau afin de nous mettre à l'abri d'un fort coup de vent de Nord-Ouest. L'atoll de Toau n'a aucun mouillage protégé contre le vent qui vient de cette direction. C'est ainsi que pendant presque une semaine, nous sommes restés au mouillage du Nord-Ouest de Fakarava. On profite d'être à Fakarava pour faire l'avitaillement car après plus d'un mois à Toau, nous sommes à court de produits frais. Nous profitons également pour visiter le vieux phare ainsi que le bateau militaire Bougainville qui avait fait escale dans l'atoll.

What a nightmare...Celina was stolen. After I left Celina at her usual spot in Palmanova safe and sound I returned the next morning to check on her. But to my surprise she was not there anymore. First I had hoped that Franz took her for an early sail but then I realized that my dinghy was drifting in the bay. The chain lock was broken and together with the chain I found it at the bottom of the sea. With pure luck I could get hands on my dinghy again and secure it at the pier where I left it before. It took me a while to realize what had happened before I ran off to the police. At the same moment I got in contact with my insurance company as well. I remembered that I was covered for theft. Or so I hoped...

Meet Mitsuharu Kume — the closest real-world equivalent I’ve ever found to Kevin Costner’s “Mariner” from Waterworld. He may not have gills (that I know of), but he has everything else: a life shaped by tides, storms, shipwrecks, deep dives, and a lifelong devotion to the ocean. Mitsu is a fisherman, diver, sailor, photographer, conservationist, educator, and a father. He began life as a marine civil engineer designing harbours in Tokyo… but quickly realised he didn’t want to design the ocean — he wanted to live in it. So he left the office, joined an offshore fishing boat, and never looked back.
