Episode 01 : San Diego to Marina Del Rey - with Sailor Commentary at the end of the episode. This video documents the recent sailing trip I crewed on onboard the sailing vessel The Intrepid. We motor-sailed from San Diego, California to the San Francisco Bay area. 10 days, 111 hours at sea and 470 nautical miles. The uphill battle against wind and currents, sailing north on the west coast is no pleasure cruise. The fleet split today and have been battling their way to the finish on both sides of a huge Traffic Separation Zone in the Dover Channel. After a day of majestic coastal racing we'll see who turns the corner first for the sprint to the The Hague pit-stop.

While the breeze was occasionally similar to yesterday’s when the full schedule of match racing was completed at the Audi RC44 Porto Cervo Cup, a light, tricky wind, combined with an annoying left-over swell, caused a long wait out on the water, then a long wait ashore before the opening day of fleet racing was finally abandoned. Tomorrow’s conditions are looking more favourable.

Earlier today we saw a dramatic split in the fleet and in this episode we get the sense that it just might pay off for the Alvimedica boys. Genny has their coach and mentor Ken Read on the show and he gives great insight as the Den Hague pit stop looms on the horizon.

Huge split in the fleet in the English Channel, so we hear the decision making process and check in with teams on both sides, Dongfeng Race Team to the North and Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing in the south.

The Audi RC44 Porto Cervo Cup kicked off with a day of match racing. Conditions off the Costa Smeralda were light to moderate under a brilliant sunshine, balmy conditions somehow at odds with the aggressive competition that was going. Winners of the day were Bronenosec Sailing Team and Artemis Racing, both on four wins and one loss, with the the St Petersburg team now on eight wins in the rolling RC44 Match Racing Championship, albeit with Artemis Racing and Peninsula Petroleum close behind, each on seven. The day was not without its incidents including a leeward gate collision between Team Nika and MAG Racing.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney launched TrySailing at the Jeanie Johnston today in Dublin. The Minister gives novice teen sailor, Siobhán Farndon an introduction to sailing in a small dingy on the Liffey.
