This week we share our adventures sailing the Canarie Islands. The next island on our list is La Palma, a charming island to the north west. We once again had an amazing experience in this colorful place. The anchorages were great with spectacular views of colorful buildings and miles and miles of Banana plantations. Tazacorte is a charming little town where the local fishermen strutted their stuff at the little marina, hauling out vast numbers of Tuna. We had no idea how they could possibly carry so many Tuna in such little boats. Visiting the Old Town is an absolute must. The cobble stone alleys with colorful flowers adorning the windows were truly amazing, any photographers dream. We prepared our Leopard 45 Catamaran cruising yacht to sail around the world. We want to visit off the beaten tack places and need to prepare for ice bergs, storms, heavy seas, as well as nice tranquil tropical waters... Thank you for all our subscribers! Check this out - we find a deserted communist fortress as we hike 18km from Kotor to Tivat, seriously one of the world's best hikes. We set sail for Greece and pick up an unexpected stowaway.

Spyhop II is no longer for sale by JMYS. Spyhop II is a 2012 Selene 56 widebody trawler style yacht. Spyhop II’s spacious interior, exceptional storage and ease of boarding/disembarking make her an excellent live aboard and full-time cruising vessel. Her light teak interior layout features three staterooms: a midship, full beam master with ensuite full head, a spacious guest room with twin beds to port and VIP stateroom with queen berth forward. The guest full head is to starboard across the companionway from the guest stateroom. Entry to the cockpit is through the port and starboard boarding doors at cockpit sole level or from the swim platform. She can also be boarded on the starboard side through the Portuguese bridge. The spacious entry level saloon is wrapped in warm teak and features an L-shaped settee covered in Ultraleather. The saloon and galley merge together to complete the entry area. The large, raised pilothouse has excellent visibility and is equipped with a Llebroc helm chair and direct access to the flybridge. Guests will appreciate the comfortable accommodations forward and below with a shared separate head and shower. The smaller cabin to port has two bunk beds and the VIP in the forepeak has a large island berth. The master is amidships and has two entries – from the forward landing or off the saloon galley deck. A large island berth with plenty of lockers and drawers and it is connected to a ensuite head and shower. The walk-in, full height engine room has two access points: primarily through a full-size door adjacent to the Master stateroom, or through two hatches in the saloon. She has easy service access for inspecting the main engine, generator, seacocks and filters. The covered flybridge has two helm chairs for navigating with a view. There is excellent seating and entertaining aloft and connects aft to the boat deck with the RIB and crane. For additional details pertinent to this video please read the description below. An important skill for close quarter maneuvering is learning how to back your boat. Boat handling in reverse requires a different touch. The feel of how you go through the water and how you visually keep oriented is not as intuitive. We live in a world that is primarily forward focused and don’t consider as much to take a look behind us. The same is true even on a slow trawler; our attention is on what is in front of us, not what we have left in the wake. Running for a few boat lengths in reverse and keeping your course straight is not as easy as going forward but is easy to learn and this video was created to give you some pointers. While driving backwards on a full displacement single engine trawler with a deep keel you may find that your heading starts to turn into a slight curve due to prop walk. What can you do to stop curving and get back in alignment? There are two easy methods you can practice to re-align and straighten your position: • Shift into forward and correct your movement by steering with your rudder to get back on course • If you have a bow thruster, you can remain in reverse and “steer” with your thruster to guide where your stern is heading Another technique that you can work on as a skill is “crabbing”. Being able to keep your boat moving side to side is easy to learn and fun to practice once you get a feel for how your prop wash and thrusters need to work together to get you moving sideways. We suggest going out into open water, away from the constraints of a marina, where you have plenty of room to maneuver and practice backing up. It’s a smart move to post someone on the stern who can help keep you clear of any obstructions. Knowing that you can guide your boat in reverse and correct your course to straighten will make it easier for you to learn how to back into your slip which is the subject of our next video.
