We set off on 29th February 2020, and the virus was declared a pandemic on 11th March 2020. Lockdown in the UK only came on 23rd March - 2 days before we landed in the Caribbean. With only a basic satellite messaging system on board, we had no access to the news. Our friends and family were instructed not to tell us any bad news, because we needed to focus on keeping the boat and crew safe. Landing was a bit of a shock. Our first narrowboat cruise of 2020. Since the canal and river trust updated their guidelines we were allowed to go on a day cruise as long as we returned to our home mooring. We travelled along the Trent and Mersey Canal from Stone to Burston. We have great weather and thoroughly enjoyed it, we hope you do too. We’re Stephen and Kayleigh an English/ Scottish couple and along with our two dogs Hugo and Coco we will full time on board our 37ft narrowboat Grayswood. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So, as a compromise (Ste wanted a boat, I was happy in the van) we decided we would purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside, the boat I texted Ste and told him I’d found us a boat. We made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom.
