Flying our ISTEC Parasailor spinnaker for the first time, as we sail downwind from Virgin Gorda to Tortola, BVI. Then tour the island along with the drone. As we sail west to Tortola, the wind is perfect to try our new ISTEC Parasailor spinnaker (228sqm), which Oana managed to find for sale on the internet. We are a bit nervous, but all goes well for a first sail. Not so with the drone, which was not cooperating and used up one of its nine-lives when we try to fly it! After snuffling the Parasailor, we make a lunch stop at Sandy Cay, next to Jost Van Dyke Island, then anchor in Cane Garden Bay and have an evening sunset stroll on the beach. ** NOW SOLD ** Evening Star is an S&S 30 listed for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. This is a little stunner, penned by the famous Olin Stephens of Sparkman and Stephens, built by John Oliver in Cairns, and launched in just 2003. Evening star is comparable to the Yankee 30’s built in the US however she differs with more modern features and a larger more open interior. This classic was designed to be a solid sea going yacht with good performance and elegant lines. The keel is lead and the rudder is protected by a skeg. In Evening Star, not only is she a gorgeous yacht but she’s a modern build and has been well cared for. She features an updated Yanmar 30 Hp shaft drive engine installed new in 2011, along with standing rigging. Instrumentation is by Raymarine and includes a large colour chart plotter down below plus tiller pilot. The furling genoa was replaced new in 2019, the mainsail presents well and there is a storm jib and trysail. The boom bag and lazy jacks were new in 2017 and the dodger and bimini in 2018. There is a practical galley to port, fully enclosed head to starboard, a beautiful and comfortable saloon, open double V berth forward plus an aft open berth. There is very useful cockpit storage. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. A delightful afternoon at famous The Baths Virgin Gorda. Road tour of Virgin Gorda island and aerial views of all its highlights. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So we decided to purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside the boat, we made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. This Beneteau Oceanis 30.1 knows what it is and what it is not. I like that! This currently smallest yacht in the Beneteau Oceanis family is NOT a charter sailboat with 4 cabins and 4 heads (bweh!). It is instead an owners boat for passionate sailors: Two mainsail options, jib, genoa, code 0, gennaker? No problem. Tillers instead of wheels? Sure. Main sheets on BOTH helm stations? You can have that. An actually usable head? Yes. Long keel, short keel, swing keel, lifting keel? Be my guest. Couple this with a foldable mast and you get easier transport and fewer craning fees at the marina.
