Granddaddy had been stationed there during World War II. We fantasized about hopping on a sailboat and sailing around the world. Our imaginations soon turned into interests and those interests grew like a weed. We began reading books, watching videos, and practicing knots. Before we knew it we were signing up for sailing lessons and taking offshore sailing courses. Last year we started looking at boats for sale. Now, nearly 6 years later, we are proud owners of the beautiful vessel, Moon Drifter. Moon Drifter is an extremely well taken care of and maintained single owner catamaran. Like every masterpiece, the Pershing 108 is a unique and incomparable work of art thanks to the customisability of its interiors: colours, furnishings and designer pieces. The same standard layout, with four guest cabins and three crew cabins, can be customised as well. As on all Pershing boats, the onboard technology is state-of-the-art. Not only do three engines reduce weight and make maintenance easier, but they allow transfers to be made using just the middle engine, with imperceptible noise and extraordinary range as it glides over 1,070 nautical miles at 10 knots. Then if we want to use two engines, the cruising speed rises to 32 knots, which becomes 42 knots with the full power of all three engines (still accompanied by a delightful silence of between 69 and 75 dBA). Another winning feature of the Pershing 108 is the liveability and spaciousness at the disposal of the yacht owner and his or her guests. Total volume is almost that of a 115-foot yacht (510 cubic metres versus the 535 cubic metres of a 115). Liveability obviously has everything to gain from this extra space. When the stern folding door is activated, an enormous room of 70 square metres leading to the spacious cockpit is created. Koh Khai Nai and Koh Khai Nok are two islands on the eastern side of Phuket. Both islands are regarded as party islands in non Covid times. The islands are normally surrounded by speeds boats and loaded with tourists hanging out and partying at the make shift bars on the islands. However today, we get to see a different version of Koh Khai Nai as Covid has basically shutdown Phuket tourism. This week we are joined by Howard from Simpson Marine in Phuket. Simpson marine is the local Lagoon dealer and often has other boats for sale that were traded in on a new Lagoon. If you are looking for a boat in SE Asia I would highly recommend getting in touch with them as their after sales service is as good as it gets. As with any boat, Captain King has had things break and other challenges come up after the sale. Simpson Marine has been there the whole time to help him out, even 6 months after Captain King purchased his Seawind from them. Captain King's sailing catamaran is a Seawind 1000 XL2. We were quite impressed with its light wind ability. We were in very light winds for this trip to Koh Khai Nai. We couldn't believe that with the Code 0 up we were going 75%+ of wind speed. Next week we will be hitting up Koh Khai Nok. This new model is pretty close in size to her bigger sister, the 4.3 MY. But look a little deeper and you’ll see this powercat has less volume – 758 sq ft (70.4 m²) of usable space as opposed to 894 sq ft (83.1 m²) for the 4.3 – and is noticeably cheaper. The platform is based on the sailing version but with completely redesigned hulls, and then topped with an imposing - but nevertheless harmonious - flybridge, accessible from both sides. The philosophy of this Catspace MY is to further optimize the Bali concept - open volumes, ease of use, comfort - by exploiting 100% of the available deck space. The choice of engines ranges from 2 x 150 to 2 x 250 HP. With whichever option, priority is given to range with up to 370 US gal (1,400 liters) of fuel and 185 US gal (700 liters) of water. The Catspace MY prototype was splashed at the beginning of the year, but the builder is set on refining the interior finish and the efficiency of the drivetrain before having an official launch. Log 20 | We are Ed and Paige and we live aboard our 37 foot sailboat, Sea Pearl. In September of 2019, we sold the last of our non-essential belongings and set off to travel. We visited New Zealand for 4 months, traveled in a van around the Northeast US for 6 months, and then bought a sailboat.
