Kurz vorher unternehmen wir eine Shoppingtour durch einen Supermarkt in San Juan, um ein paar Lebensmittel als Gastgeschenk für die Familie Nicoles mitzubringen. Bei der Auswahl der Lebensmittel, was hauptsächlich in der Familie benötigt wird, verlassen wir uns auf die Mitarbeiter vor Ort. So landen Reis, Bohnen, Wurst, Milchpulver, Eier, Mehl, Öl und ein gefrorenes Huhn im Einkaufswagen. Nicole, ein dreijähriges Mädchen, erwartet uns bereits zusammen mit ihrer Mutter, Großmutter, einigen Kusinen und Gemeindemitarbeitern in ihrem Dorf. Alle gucken uns neugierig an und wir probieren uns in einigen, wenigen Brocken Spanisch, um uns mit der Familie bekannt zu machen. Ein von uns mitgebrachter Kinderrucksack mit Einhornmotiven kommt gut bei Nicole an, noch mehr freuen sich die Kinder allerdings über die im Rucksack versteckten Lolli´s. Damit sich die Familie ein wenig über uns und unsere Heimat ein Bild machen kann, haben wir ein kleines Album mit Familienbildern, unserer Heimatstadt Hamburg und typisch deutschem Essen zusammengestellt. Google Übersetzer war behilflich, ein paar Texte in Spanisch als Erklärung dazu zu schreiben. Die Gemeindemitglieder berichten uns über die gute Zusammenarbeit mit Plan und freuen sich sichtlich, uns in ihrem Dorf begrüßen zu dürfen. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Here it is, a full tour of our floating home, a Fusion 40 catamaran, a performance cruiser I guess you would call her. From sail plan to navigation and layout, although look out for Kaia who hijacked our tour midway with one her own! We knew this day would come, but we never thought it would be so soon. My wife and I have lived aboard Peregrine for the past five years and have been cruising the Sea of Cortez since 2020. Die deutsche Community in der Marina Santa Marta bricht zum Großteil direkt zu den San Blas Inseln auf. Noch vor zwei Wochen wehten südliche Winde, sozusagen direkt von Santa Marta nach Santo Domingo. Eine außergewöhnliche Windsituation, die wir hätten nutzen können. Dann hätten wir aber Kolumbien nicht kennengelernt. Ich persönlich hätte darauf nicht verzichten wollen. Somit steht uns ein viertägiger Segeltörn bevor. Hart am Wind und sicherlich kein Spaziergang. Doch dann kam wieder, wie so oft im Seglerleben, alles ganz anders. Die Flautenzone vor der kolumbianischen Küste existiert nicht und der Plan, mal eben flux bis zum Punta Galinas zu motoren, bleibt im tagelangen mühsamen Kreuzen stecken. Nördlich dieser Nordspitze Kolumbiens und südlich der Dominikanischen Republik sind Strömungsbereiche ausgewiesen. Dass aber das gesamte karibische Becken Strömungen bereithält, wirft uns in unserem Zeitplan zurück. 1,5 bis 3,0 kn von vorn, lässt die Reisezeit schnell um 1,5 Tage anwachsen. Dieselbe Strömung von der Seite verlangsamt zwar nicht die Bootsgeschwindigkeit, sorgt aber für erheblichen Versatz und trägt uns fort von unseren anvisierten Wegepunkten. This is a quick interior and exterior tour of our 2012 Beneteau Oceanis 48. It has a length overall (LOA) of 14.6 m or 47’11” and a beam of 4.74 m or 15’7”. Ours has the shoal draft keel which draws 1.96 m or 6'5". Displacement with the shoal draft keel and roller furling mainsail is 13,104 kg or 28,889 lb. The Beneteau Oceanis 48 can be configured with 2, 3, 4 or even 5 cabins. Our 48 is configured with three cabins, two heads and positions the galley to port. One cool feature unique to the 48 over the 45 is the master head and shower configuration. They are separate with the head compartment to port, the shower to starboard and the sink on the centreline. This means someone showering isn't occupying the head at the same time. Our Oceanis 48 is powered by a 75 HP Yanmar 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine muted to an SD 50 sail drive. We have sailed her at close to 10 knots in about 20 knots of wind.
