Soweit an der Nordspitze der Insel nimmt mit zunehmendem Wind aus Ost eben dieser Schwell unerträglich zu, sodass wir in die Mitte der Insel in die Thompson Bay verholen. Der Wind dreht nach Süden – auch hinter der Insel wird es langsam ungemütlich. Alle Yachten verlassen fluchtartig die Bucht. Wir bleiben noch eine Nacht in der benachbarten und noch ungeschützteren Miller`s Bay um Brigittas Geburtstag zu feiern. MariaNoa schaukelt heftig und zerrt am Anker - aber an Land ist es herrlich. Der lange Strand der Bucht wird ausschließlich von einem kleinen Resort genutzt, dessen Zentrum das sehr zu empfehlende Restaurant Chez Pierre ist. Mit selbst gemixten Drinks genießen wir zunächst den Sonnenuntergang am Strand, bevor wir bei einer Leberpastete als Vorspeise und Hummer an Cannelloni mit einer gepflegten Flasche Rosé einen wunderbaren Abend genießen. Nach einer unruhigen Nacht brechen wir dann aber in die Exumas auf. Vor der Sand Dollar Beach von Stocking Island ankern bereits über 100 Yachten, die hier Schutz vor den angekündigten Winden aus Nord suchen. In Kürze findet hier eine Regatta statt – dann sollen es 500 Yachten werden. Die Bahamas sind fest in amerikanischer oder auch kanadischer Hand. Wir als Deutsche sind hier die Exoten. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. AIRBORNE is a nice example of the popular Hinckley 51 series boasting a handsome profile, proven hull design and beautiful Maine craftsmanship inside and out. Aside from a world cruise in 2004, she has primarily been based between New England and the Bahamas. The yacht was damaged in the Bahamas during Hurricane Dorian in 2019, washing ashore with hull damage port side midships that allowed partial flooding along port side bilge area. She was subsequently brought up to the renowned Brooklin Boat Yard in Maine where in 2020 the original owner spared no expense in repairing damage and upgrading many other systems and equipment at a cost of over $750,000.
