We finally get to set the spinnaker, running off the coast of Africa towards South America under full sail, but while grabbing some epic drone footage, we encounter a big problem and Kate gets sliced by the drone! #sailing #yacht #spinnaker #drone #howtosail More about us at www.sweetruca.com It feels so good to finally set our spinnaker on our way to Argentina. Things are going well, but there are a few problems. We have noticed a problem with our masthead wind data, which is causing our new B&G H5000 autopilot to steer erratically and even try to crash gybe us. We are investigating, but in the mean time, the conditions were just too good not to fly our two favorite toys, the G3 cruising spinnaker and the DJI Mavic Pro in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Lets go sailing! So who is this crazy sailing couple making fun videos to share? Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing. Of course also Delos and La Vagabonde. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. Segeln in den Grenadinen ist wunderbar, einkaufen schwierig. Zurück auf Martinique haben wir deshalb für zwei Tage ein Auto gemietet, um wieder einmal richtig shoppen zu gehen. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Unsere erste Einkaufsrunde führt uns mit dem Dingy zum Leader Price dem örtlichen Discounter von Le Marin. Hier kaufen wir schon einmal alles, was schwer und sperrig ist. Nachdem wir in einem Elektrogroßhandel einen Stand- und einen Handmixer erstanden hatten, ist unser erster Stop ein riesiger Decathlon. Brigitta hat Geburtstagsgeld welches sie hier investieren will und ich brauche nach Jahrzehnten mal wieder eine Badehose und eine Schwimmbrille. Unser Hauptziel ist Leclerce in der Einkaufspassage La Galleria in Lamentin. Hier kann man definitiv nur mit dem Auto hin. Die Auslagerung aller Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in Gewerbegebiete auf der grünen Wiese ist, solange man motorisiert ist, praktisch, führt aber zu der Gesichtslosigkeit der Hauptstadt Port de France, die ich bereits beschrieben habe. Nach einer kurzen Fahrt Richtung Norden sind wir wieder mitten im tropischen Regenwald mit seinen faszinierenden großmaßstäblichen Pflanzen. Eine satte Natur, die vom Regen nur so tropft. Hier soll der Cascade de Didier der Wasserfall zu finden sein. De facto treffen wir auf Verbotsschilder, die das Wasserschutzgebiet des Mineralwasserherstellers Didier schützen sollen. Scheinbar kümmert sich niemand um diese Verbote. So gehen auch wir auf die Suche, brechen die Wanderung jedoch ab, als der Trampfelpfad durch einen finsteren Tunnel zu führen scheint. Wir haben den Cascade de Didier nicht gefunden und sind auf MariaNoa zurückgekehrt. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Dolphins join us at the end of the day for an amazing playful experience. So who is this crazy sailing couple making fun videos to share? Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing. Of course also Delos and La Vagabonde. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. This Selene 55 Trawler is NOT for sale, this video has been filmed to show the two-stateroom interior layout of this particular hull. In early 2022, Jeff Merrill and John Hoffman worked with clients to purchase the Selene 55 shown in this video. She was purchased in Florida and is now out cruising with her new owners. The Selene 55 model is an incredibly popular design. There are several layout options available to the original buyer, primarily the choice between two or three staterooms. Over time, the three-stateroom layout has proven to be the more commonly selected, but a strong case can be made to favor the two-stateroom layout. Unless you are ordering a new boat you won’t have to make that choice, but it will weigh as a heavy consideration in the brokerage market. The reality is that one couple, the owners, will be aboard by themselves the majority of the time. If you are the owner, would you prefer one guest stateroom or two? One advantage of the three-cabin layout is that you can use the third cabin (offset to port, not the owner or VIP) as a storage room for extra gear. An argument in favor of the two-cabin layout is that each stateroom has more space. How often will you need sleeping accommodations for more than two couples? Like most trawlers in this size and price range there are a wide variety of options to review and no two Selene 55’s are exactly alike. Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, and MJ Sailing. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. The first TrawlerFest of 2022 was held in early March in sunny Stuart, Florida. This was a great location for trawler cruisers to congregate and the beautiful scenery mixed with the ideal temperatures and clear skies made the Hutchinson Island Marriott a fabulous venue to kick off this year’s event calendar. On the Friday of TrawlerFest, Jeff took a stroll to film this #DockWalkAndTalk video, showing every aspect of the show starting from the parking lot, to the friendly faces in vendor tents, over to the docks to show off the boats, and back inside the hotel to tour the classroom spaces. The marina at the Marriott has in-water docks, which making stepping aboard convenient and easy, but we did not have the selection of boats present that we normally do. As brokers, we would have loved to have trawlers for sale on display, but didn’t have any close by available for sale that we could showcase. There were a total of 15 boats on display, from Ranger Tugs to the Kadey-Krogen 58. The Kadey Krogen company had a great display with a 48, 52 and 58. Burr Yacht Sales brought in a Fleming 55, a beautiful boat which provided a bit of variety amongst the Krogens. Overall, it was a fantastic show and the team at Passagemaker outdid themselves once again. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Plan International ist ein internationales Kinderhilfswerk. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. She is anything BUT ordinary, as I found out when I spoke to the Captain. In this yacht the bridge and the Captain's cabin were actually the most interesting parts, as you will discover when you watch the video.

Our first hours in San Blas, Panama begins with a rousing sail in steep waves and 20 knots of stiff breeze. We’re racing friends on @svdelos & @ParlayRevival from one gorgeous island to the next and at the downwind angle we’ve got our code zero poled out to maximize the wind. Racing these big boys is quite the challenge given their size but we’re up for the fun any day! Bill is in his glory powered up in the giant swell and is quite happy to spend his first day in this island paradise doing what he loves most. Once anchored we’re visited by the local indigenous people, the Kuna, who sell us a couple of beautifully sewn, handmade, intricate crafts. The people govern their land - the San Blas - independently of Panama and their culture is fascinating. We’re happy to interact with this family of mother, daughter & son, who’ve come by on their boat to visit us, so early on in our San Blas adventure. Bill then works on making the fix to the windless remote more permanent using one of Grace’s small tupperwares.
