In 2014 Ed completed an 18 month circumnavigation with his father, and I (Paige) got to tag along for most of the Pacific🙌🏻. Following Ed's return we knew we would do whatever it took to get back on the water, this time in our own boat, together. So, after nearly 5 years of planning, saving, and questioning our sanity, we quit our jobs in 2019 and sold most of our non-essential/non-heartfelt belongings. We've decided to spend the next few years dedicating ourselves to travel and adventure while living aboard our 37 foot home, Sea Pearl. If you'd like to join us while we work to get our new home offshore ready and to see what we get up to on our future sailing adventures - like, subscribe, and follow along. We'd love to have you! Cheers! Our sailing adventures in Sulawesi continue as we discovered a blissfully calm and quiet anchorage at the tiny village Barangka on the island of Buton. Here we had some amazing experiences with the people before moving onto the city of Bau Bau where we were again embraced by the locals. Whether in tiny villages or major cities, the people we’ve encountered in Indonesia have been super friendly, generous and fantastic fun to spend time with. As I continue traveling through Japan’s longevity hotspots, I keep hearing a surprisingly common response from people who remain active, healthy, and engaged deep into old age: “I don’t worry too much.” And I notice something else as well. They laugh easily. This Short is another small Field Note from my ongoing research into healthy aging, community, and what I call “Red Zone Rebels”, people who seem to compress the years of decline often associated with old age. About me: I’m Lowell Sheppard, 71, sailor, author, and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I’m the Founder of the Never Too Late Academy and Special Advisor to the International Forum. Through Japan Solo Field Notes, I explore aging, place, community, and longevity across Japan. My travels are part of the Longevity Project with the Never Too Late Academy. https://www.nevertoolateacademy.com/ #Longevity #HealthyAging #Japan #JapanSolo #Happiness #LifeLessons #AgingWell #Community #Mindset #HealthyLiving #nevertoolate

In this video we’re sailing upwind in 35+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and storm jib. A crew member is on the foredeck securing the #3 jib we had previously been flying in the short video https://youtube.com/shorts/VRAEp8M49Y4, but ripped in half. The head literally ripped right off. He is wearing a harness and tether! The sky is completely blue, but everybody is still completely soaked from the spray. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib that is now on the foredeck.
