The Devastating SS Pacific Tragedy
On the night of November 4th, 1875 the paddle steamer SS Pacific, launched September 24, 1850, collided with the schooner Orpheus southwest of Cape Flattery, Washington. Despite the relatively minor collision, the Pacific sank in minutes. It remains one of the deadliest disasters in the history of the west coast of the United States.
