Charles Caudrelier won the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, breaking the course recordIn the dark of a Caribbean-night to a typically rapturous welcome, French solo skipper Charles Caudrelier on the ULTIM Maxi, Edmond de Rothschild, crossed the line off Pointe-a-Pitre,-Guadeloupe, at 05 02 hours local time. This is your weekly Sailing Highlights show, The World on Water, for November 18, 2022 .Australia has executed a stunning comeback to seize victory and extend its overall season lead, in a day of crazy shore-side racing in Dubai. The Australian's stormed back after a disastrous eighth place finish on day one, to snatch victory from France and Great Britain, in a nail-biting fight to the finish on Day 2. François Gabart took second place in the Ultim class on the 12th Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, when he brought his SVR Lazartigue through the Pointe-à-Pitre finish line, this Wednesday afternoon. He finished in an elapsed time of 6 days, 23 hours, 3 minutes and 15 seconds, 3 hours 15 minutes and 50 seconds, after class winner Charles Caudrelier (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild). Meet Neil Hunter, cyclor, for INEOS Britannia, Challenger of Record, for the 37th America's Cup.Neil's America's Cup journey started in 2016, when he trialled for the then B A R Academy, and won the Youth America's Cup. After a day of house-keeping yesterday for the Alinghi red Bull team with Boat Zero receiving a healthy shot of new hydraulic fluid just outside the shed, for all the systems, it was a short day out on the water in Barcelona for the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team; but from a recon perspective it was significant with the first sighting of the new re-cut M-1 1-R mainsail now adapted for the boomless set-up. And from a pure aero perspective it’s possibly the neatest we’ve seen to date, with the hydraulic system well shielded through a cleverly cut bottom panel, and a very flat lower section housing the leach-tensioner. The Golden Globe Race Cape Town Gate, 5th Arrival, was Abhilash Tomy, the 43 year old sailor from India. In the last edition of the race, Tomy was rescued after 83 days at sea, following a complex international effort. He doesn't seem happy. The last event on the 2022 schedule is the P W A World Cup Japan Day 5. These are the class highlights of the season.Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of sailing in the last 7 days.
