960 WATTS of BLAZING SOLAR POWER! DIY INSTALL on our 46' LIVEABOARD SAILBOAT! and . ERIC ROCKS TIPSY McSWAY'S!! Well, we've been building up to this one for a while...so many projects and so many preparations for our departure from the US in less than 6 weeks as we head to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and beyond. But few projects will have as big of a day to day impact as adding solar to our sailboat. 960 watts of solar to be exact. We don't plan on spending much time at all in marinas and want to sip fuel as conservatively as possible, which means we need some way to keep those batteries topped off. You may have seen Episodes 75 and 76 where we installed our stern arch to support both dinghy and solar...now it's finally time to install the panels. It some planning and added structure to squeeze all three up there, but we made it work.
